HD-681 Evo BK : Incredible bang for the buck

The Superlux HD-681 was the first over the ear headphone that I bought for music production. I read a lot of positive reviews and decided to give it a try. I wanted a budget headphone quite neutral (allowing to mix at late night) but with a good bass response, since I mainly produce electronic music. I now also have more expensive headphones from Audio Technica and Beyerdynamic. A direct comparison would not make sense, since the price does vary, but they provide me with some references to write the review. Summing up:

+ very good comfort, actually it is the more comfortable headphone that I have (for my head shape)

+ Nice sound. Thanks to the 50mm driver and its eq shape, bass sounds very full and it makes fun to listen music with them.

On the other hand I would not really recommend to mix on these (but I generally would not recommend to mix on headphones if possible), but for "sketching" or creating a beat they will get the work done, and you can fix the mix later on monitors

+ you get 2 cables, adapter 3.5 to 6.3mm, and a bag! The shorter cable is really practical if you work with a USB audio interface that is close to you

+ they work also with low power output (a mobile phone, just crank the volume up). With a proper amp (or with a standard sound card) of course they sound better

- nothing for the price. Maybe, if you care the look... They are very "studio" (AKG look) and probably they look funny if you plan to use them in the subway. They are however not designed for that (they are semi open).

I would definitely recommend them. In their price range they are difficult to beat.
