Do they cost more than your typical branded strings?
Yes.
Do they last longer?
Yes. MUCH longer.
Are they more consistent over their lifetime?
Yes.
Let me put it this way. Last week I bought a second-hand guitar, the seller was throwing in a free set of strings. Right gauge, well-know brand... I told him to keep it. This may sound like advertising, I may sound posh, but I'm simply writing about my own experience. I just don't use anything else (6-and 7-string guitars), as I see no point.
