TD-1DMK V-Drum Set : Small and so much fun + COOL FEATURE
I was a brand new drummer when I received these for my birthday, and they're great. They're Roland, so they're not inexpensive, but given the entire range they sit at a real nice mix of features for price.
PROS: easy to move all the bits around and get them exactly where you want them. There's a very simple panel that seems overly simplified but actually lets you do anything you need to quickly. There's lots of configurability if you long press the metronome button - you can do a lot wit this.
CONS: The only two issues I have with the kit are a) getting the snare high enough on the kit - you kind of have to get used to playing it lower. and b) there's a lot of "crossover" between the different items. If you're hitting the snare or the toms, you'll often hear the crash getting triggered lightly as well. It could be that I haven't dialed in the sensitivity, but it's not enough of a pain for me to have bothered trying to fix it, so not that bad.
There's one really COOL FEATURE I've found that I try to tell everyone about(I didn't see it in the documentation): If you want the bell sound from the ride cymbal, you have to hit the ride in a specific area really hard....but there's a better way - if you hit the hard plastic part with the side of your stick like you would on an acoustic kit, it triggers the bell every time. I just think that's cool.
