Sub 8 : Adam Sub 8 with Adam A7 monitors
This is review is for everyone like my self who has been considering the purchase of the Adam Sub 8 and is still a little apprehensive.
I own a pair of Adam A7s. The monitors are fantastic but lack in the low frequencies. I have been mixing successfully on these for many years but recently have stumbled due to the lack of lows. I usually mix Heavy Metal, Rock, Punk etc. and I have never had an issue with the lows but now I have been working on some Dance / House and realized that my lows are completely out. When playing back on a full range system the bass completely overpowers the mix & in my lame defense I had now idea these frequencies were even there when mixing the track.
The Adam Sub 8 has given me the lows that I need to reference and has turned my kool A7 into a kick A** monitoring system. I can hear things I could never hear before and in return, even the music I’m really comfortable with mixing sounds even better and cleaner. It took me a while to get used to it but mixing for a few days (or maybe even a week or so) my ears have settled to the sound.
I’m in a home studio so nothing too fancy but now have the ability to feel even more confident in my mixes. May even consider the ARK system to help with room calibration
Overall a top piece of kit I’ve wanted for ages and now really happy. The only downside is the sub must be on all the time so will drive your neighbors crazy if you mix into the night (you can however turn the sub volume down so will help with this problem but would have been nice to just have a cut switch)
Not cheap not too expensive, but im not getting rid of mine ? happy mixing!
