Achat 206 : Small but powerfull speakers

I bought 8 of these to use in a small auditorium for 150 people as a surround sound installation. I bought the wall mounts as well and a couple of Achat 112 subwoofers. These are not cinema type speakers but I took the chance and was not disappointed. The dispersion was the only concern I really had, and luckily the 90° x 90° seems to be adequate for this room. Doing a fixed installation I was pleased that the speakers had the "old school" feature of binding posts connections too.

I guess this is not how most people will use these speakers. But if I was to use these speakers on the road I would not be worried. They are very well build and for their size I would call the quite heavy. In fact I felt a little bad mounting something this sturdy on the wall out of harms way. They where clearly made for a life filled with much more action and excitement than I intended for them.

The sound is, as I said, clear and they can get loud as well. When it comes to bass they have more than I expected. They will however need a subwoofer if you want to fill the dance floor. If all you need is a PA for speaking/singing or light music they will do just fine on their own.

Being 8 ohms speakers some will appreciate the dual speak-on (or dual binding posts) connection. It would be very easy to connect 2 speakers in series that way.
