TE-70RW Deluxe Series : Another Harley Bargain
This is a good Tele that looks cool and plays well.
Pros:
Looks good and authentic. I don't know if the rosewood veneer is really rosewood or a laminate and I don't really plan on damaging the surface to find out. It looks great. Bindings are clean and even and the neck is quality.
There is a bit of weight to the guitar but it's not too heavy. It's pretty comfortable to hold.
Cons:
The fretboard is quite dry. I haven't used any on it yet, but I've heard this is common to most of the Harley Benton Teles.
I had/have a sticking G string (snort!). I've replaced the string trees with Goldo roller units and it's made some difference. By the way, this is a very simple modification even for someone with no previous experience. Give it a try ;)
The electrics on this guitar aren't convincing me. I played this side by side with my Harley 335 the other day and the difference in output was drastic. Having said that it's got a good tone and sounds, you know, just like a tele.
I have tried to set this guitar up myself but can't quite get the perfect balance between fret buzz and low action. Out of the box this thing had a ridiculously high action. Upon lowering the action I got a lot of fret buzz. I've had a go at the truss rod but can't seem to get it perfect. I think I'll entrust this one to my local guitar pro (who's awesome, BTW - Hi Dar).
Conclusion:
Another really nice guitar from Harley Benton that, despite not being perfect, is perfectly awesome value for money when compared to the big name brands.
