PEX-500 : Worth a purchase at this price
I will use this EQ for tracking. Tested it on various pre-recorded program materal, kick, snare, bass etc. to see if it had any of that Pultech holy grail emulation, it purports to offer. Result - I've no idea, as I don't have a Pultech to compare it with. But, as a passive EQ, it sounds splendid. Cons: It has a limited no of high end bands to select for your focus, but the bands available are smooth and can be scultpted with the attenuator to produce a pleasing tone.
But the real value of any Pultech-type EQ probably lies in the low end, and this unit perfomed well here. Again, with 30, 60 and 100 Hz to choose from, I was able to pull off the Pultech 'trick' and bring out some lovely rich, full, girth, which surprised me for something at this price. I mounted it in my Midas L6 chassis (another budget purchase) and heard NO noise, buzzes, hums or crackles. All in all, I'd say great value for money, especially if like me, you're growing your studio
