SX2442FX : SX2442FX
I can't really fault this desk for the money, it has so many features and really the sound quality is good. The routing is incredibly flexible. I should probably say as well I?m using it primarily as a desk for working with an open reel analogue deck, so the 4 buss structure is a good match for my 4/4 REC 8 PLAY track configuration, and I have plenty of extra inputs for my MIDI gear. Very old school, but I like working with this sometimes.
Anyway, I had a few disappointments. For me I didn't like the fact that the only way to route monitoring that includes soloed channels (control room out) is through a single headphone jack. Other models in the series such as the X2222USB (which I also own) have a separate set of L/R jacks for control room output.
I found the 48v phantom light stays on all the time no matter what you do with the switch, but the operation is unaffected, so it's just a slight annoyance. Would probably be more of an issue in a live situation with low light, where you need to be sure your 48v is off before patching TRS cables.
Again like the X2222USB, it would be nice if the selected FX settings remained between sessions and a tap tempo option like the X2222USB would be welcome, likewise the one knob compression.
So really my gripes are about things that are present on a newer design frame that are ?missing? from the 2442FX. It would be good to see Behringer update this model with these handy things. I dare say had I not owned a X2222USB prior to this one I would not miss most of these things, probably just the extra monitor output.
All in all, incredible value for money.
