Remo 16" Pinstripe clear
Based on 16 reviews
The remo pinstripe has been in my life for as long as I can remember. It gets a decent sound out of entry level beginner drums, and a good sound out of good drums. But something that not everyone will know is that it gets an unbelievably good sound out of quads or multi-tenors (for marching bands / drum corps). The tonal clarity and projection you get is second to none. Obviously it's better to use the dedicated marching version with the crimplock hoop, but it's essentially the same head, just a little stronger at the point of attachment. If you haven't heard pinstripes cranked up to high tension, then you haven't heard them at their very best. But even at normal tensions they are a solid, reliable drumhead.
Evans 16" EC2S/SST Clear

Evans drum skins are top quality. The sound is perfect, they are durable and last long. I would highly recommend Evans over and above any other skin brand. I recently switched to Hydraulic batters for all my toms; the EC2s are a classic looking and sounding clear tom batter, but the hydraulics for me are a lot rounder and fuller sounding. They decay quicker than the EC2s clears, so for my taste hydraulics are perfect. But, if you prefer longer decay and a slightly more complex set of fine overtone options in tuning, then I couldn't recommend the EC2s skins more. Proper good old Evans. My favourites by far :-)
Evans 16" Hydraulic Blue Tom

I mounted this head on my Mapex Armory 16" floor tom. The product looks beautiful (it blends amazingly with the aquamarine colour of my drumset) and, according to my taste, it sounds great. It delivers that typical '70s/'80s classic rock and hard rock sound, which are the genres I mainly play. I've had it for a long time and still looks alright, it's a quality product and also resistant. I would choose it for hard rock, not for jazz or softer genres (even if it still does the job just fine).
Evans 16" G2 Clear Tom
Based on 7 reviews
Clear double-ply heads are probably the most common tom heads in modern pop, rock, and heavy music. They give a punchy tone with clear attack and a bit of sustain and tone. Evans's G2s have been consistently high quality. They sound good, they're durable, have a good tuning range, and they don't lose tone too quickly. If you make sure that you angle your drums in a way that you don't get dents in your drumheads (that is, you hit the drumhead as flat as possible, not with the top of the tip of the stick), these will serve you for a good while before beginning to lose tone.
Evans TT16ECR Resonant Control
Based on 7 reviews
As a recording engineer, I sometimes struggle with getting toms right in the recording process. Now tuning is an issue for many people. These resonant heads are much easier to tune than anything I have used in the past. It seems that the head is already perfectly seated when you put it on for the first time. I'm still strechting them in but this is clearly different from other heads (and brands) I had in the past. Then again, even with a head perfectly tuned, you might get unwanted resonances. What I like about these heads is that they seem to shorten the sustain of the tom a bit and also cut out a little of those overtones. This makes getting a nice tom sound much easier. Especially when recording heavy rock and metal music I usually don't want the toms to ring eternally but rather...
Aquarian 16" Texture Coated
Based on 2 reviews
I bought this drum head specially because of the coating and was instantly amazed when I pulled it out of the box. It feels really coarse and works fantastically with brushes, but when I apply my sticks they don't leave a mark. The sound was really great, and I was able to produce the vintage sound that I wanted and needed. There was no trouble tuning it, and it was ready in no time at all. All in all I was very much satisfied with this product and would recommend it to anyone in need of a "ringy" vintage drum sound.
Remo Encore 16" Ambassador clear
Based on 1 reviews
I bought 1 of these to replace the resonant head on a vintage Premier Soundwave floor tom. The original owner had Remo Pinstripes top & bottom which made the drum sound like hitting a plastic tub. I kept the batter head Pinstripe & was going to fit a normal Remo Ambassador as resonant head but decided to give the Encore Ambassador a try. The head fitted perfectly, tuning was a breeze & now the drum sounds great. I would definitely recommend as a cheaper alternative to Remo Ambassadors as resonant heads.
Aquarian 16" Deep Vintage II Coated
Based on 1 reviews
The Aquarian Vintage (Modern and Deep models) drumheads are the way to bring the old standards back to life. Since the "new" trend in recording pop-rock music requires a bit dull, short, mellow and warm sounding drums, the vintage coating heads are the way to go. I prefer the Modern Vintage to the Texture coated, since the Vintage models has a bit less attack, but extended warmth and mellow feel. I even preffer the Modern Vintage as resonant heads on toms as well. This is the way to controll the sustain of the toms even better. The coating itself is indestructible - I still record regullary on Modern Vintage heads bought 3 years back with no traces of use. The Deep Vintage heads shorten the sustain, but they're not "dead" heads as you may expect being so thick (10+10...
Evans 16" G12 Clear TomTom
Based on 1 reviews
I use this on Premier Genista 1990s drum kits , thin birch shell undersized. it is a like a thicker G1 head , its heavier and more durable these heads take away some of the plentiful birch attack , and add a nice warm resonant tone , half modern half vintage in nature . also take a superb beating for a long time before losing energy and life. i found g1 to thin sounding and g2 to dead sounding , this is in between and to me is a best kept secret for tone . im using g1 resonant heads. they also tune and hold tune very well., i think they suit 14 and 16 inch floor toms best in this thickness of ply. i havent tried the coated but i expect it would be the best one for birch but i dont like coated heads on toms generally.
Remo 16" Ambassador Clear
Based on 16 reviews
I've been playing drums for about 8 years now, on and off recently since I've been in college. I have tried almost every head on the market and I just really have gotten the best sound out of my toms with these Remos. I started playing on a Tama Stagestar kit when I was 10 or 11, made of poplar wood, not great sounding but I was just starting out. I was a huge RUSH fan and Neil was my main influence, he used DW drums, Sabian cymbals and Remo drumheads... Needless to say I couldn't afford DW drums nor was I experienced enough to really warrant that kind of investment of money into a kit. However, I could afford Sabian cymbals and Remo heads; I bought myself some Remo Clear Ambassadors and with the poplar wood they sounded, well, not much different than the stock heads. They, like the...
