I have been trying synth reeds since I was a student of Clarinet - many decades, almost 50 years ago. Every reed that was launched when played was a disappointment. They could not even begin to compare to a real cane reed. Along came the Vandoren VK1 Synth Bb Clarinet Reed. I read about it for a while before I was able to buy them. Being A European Company 'Vandoren'... I was perplexed (annoyed) the reed was available in the states ages before they were available in EU! We should have had these Synth Reeds FIRST! I played the reeds and knew I would never play cane again. No soaking, no keeping moist, no breaking it in. It is ready to play immediately. I have the 40, 45, and 50. Why? Different sheet music for me is easier to play with a softer and others with a harder reed. But...

These reeds are pleasant to play and have a good tone. They are however very rough on your skin. I never understood why Leslie Craven (of the SMERF reed system and Marca player) talked about getting inflammation and abscesses from reeds, because I never had that problem with other brands. These Marca reeds feel very abrasive on the skin under your lip after only a couple minutes of playing.

I have tried a few Legere reeds and have not had any good experiences so far. The quality was not particularly good. I could only play them briefly. The material deformed after a short time and therefore did not rest properly on the tip of the mouthpiece. I have played Signature and European cut. For me personally, no comparison to cane reeds. With the French cut I now have the feeling for the first time that I can play them equally well and they feel and sound slightly different, but are no longer significantly worse than cane reeds. This is of course a personal impression, but I am very satisfied so far, let's see how long they last. I will definitely buy them again (French cut 3,25)

It had been a long time since I had used Rico reeds. I ordered this package, and the delivery was fast despite being in stock. The quality of the reeds is good, although with the Rico brand I recommend ordering half a level harder than usual (for example, if you usually use number 3 for Buffet reeds, you should order Rico 3.5). It is a good product for professionals, and I have been able to use almost all the reeds in the box. They are not excessively wet and the sound is good and long lasting.
