Behringer V-Tone Acoustic ADI21 Reviews
Bravo Behringer
This is one of the best deals available in DI Boxes. It is nothing fancy but it works really well for home use. In my case I didn't want to buy an acoustic guitar amp for my room. My home stereo system has a mic in input but plugging the guitar straight into it would sound too harsh. This solves the problem and I don't need to buy another bulky amp for my room. I comes with eq knobs and tube amp simulator. All in al I am very satisfied with the product and I would totally recommend it.
Works as a DI box
As well as working as a DI box (a jack plug instrument to XLR converter) it
can apply nice warm distortion to an acoustic guitar that sounds a little like it has been through a valve amp. Just can add a little valve type warmth to the sound.
Just buy it - trust me :)
For this price I don't see why Behringer is not No.1. The quality of this product and what it can do to your acoustic guitar sound is phenomenal both for live and recordings. My Taylor sounds so much more warm and proper acoustic when plugged in. Gone is the thin brittle piezo sound. Don't get any of the DI's for acoustics that cost 100's of pounds. This magic box gives them all a run for their money - and how!!
Behringer V Tone
This little baby sounds cool. Its dead easy to use. It even makes my Telecaster sound like an acoustic guitar, so it's good for those times when all you need to do is strum!. It's solid and well built too.
A very affordable preamp for gigging
Let me start by saying that this is definitely not a Baggs PADI. Let me also say that it costs about 1/10 of the PADI's price. Generally speaking it will tame the "quack" associated with USTs (under-saddle transducers). The sweepable mids are a great feature especially considering the price and besides EQing that control can also be used to kill any feedback that you might be getting. The blend knob should be used with caution as a little goes a long way and you can easily get valve-like distortion out of it (useful for electric guitar though). Overall a nice product for the price, make sure you invest in an AC adapter as it can't be powered by phantom power and it can eat through batteries relatively easy. A plus is that it can double as an active DI box.
Great little unit
I run this unit with a 9v psu so there is no issue with battery consumption. The difference it makes to the guitar sound is very noticable. That's a positive comment by the way. The booklet that comes with it offers settings suggestions for your style of playing and the results are very agreeable.
Sometimes use a 'Dean Markley' soundhole pick-up with no pre-amp. Running it thorugh the AD121 gives it all the volume and punch needed. Very pleased with my purchase.
fine
like almost all beringer it isn't obvious as to how to use it I have however got it on my peddle board now and will experiment for the price I know it will come in useful
Suprisingly powerful!
Tricky to set up, you can either totally destroy the sound or enhance it to the point where crappy piezos sound pleasent enough. Box feels sturdy despite the plastic. Fantastic value!
Improved my tone
This little wonder was such a great find. I started with the idea of buying a normal DI
to change my passive acoustic guitar pickup signal to balanced signal. To take advantage of the extra 10/20 decibels of gain available from going into the desk via
XLR.
But this having tone and volume control I thought It would be more useful. And It is!
For the First time last week I could hear my guitar properly at a concert! And I used it as a volume switch to take it up or down as needed.
I would recommend the Behringer V-Tone Acoustic AD121.
Really useful piece of gear, especially if you have a guitar passive pick-up with no nearby volume and tone control.
I'd also recommend this for violin or mandolin players with passive pickups, more control of your tone and volume and better stronger balanced signal via XLR = awesome.

Maybe its just me ,but I couldn't get on with this pedal. after trying all the settings at home and before a gig , I couldn't get a clear rich sound .Instead all I got was a distorted muffled sound,I gave it away, which was easier than returning it.
It works
I really just wanted this to give me EQ/Vol control, as my acoustic guitar has no EQ/Vol pots. It needed to have ground list and DI capability as well, to replace my existing DI. It works well; I discovered that it is important if you have a powered pickup to set on the PAD switch to avoid distortion. Mid-sweep works well.
The valve-like effect is very slight but adds some warmth if that's what you want.
A great DI box for the electro-acoustic guitar
This pedal answered my prayers! I was struggling to get a smooth clean tone from my rather harsh electro-acoustic guitar when plugged directly into the band's PA. I tried "Booster" pedals but none gave the range of tones and warmth that this did. The pedal has an admittedly basic 3-band EQ (Bass, Mid, Treble) but this is plenty to allow / compensate for whatever tone is coming from the guitar. The other controls for I've found the optional input via an XLR socket (1/4" input socket also included) particularly beneficial as this makes plugging into the PA a "doddle" and surely improves the signal strength. My one minor gripe would be around battery life as the red LED seems to fade to faint rather quickly though at this price I wouldn't quibble about that. Great value for money

A great budget-buy piece of kit. I've bought two and used them both live for over a year in a weekly restaurant gig - the type where you are your own roadie and sound engineer - with a very budget-guitar and Yamaha PA system with floor wedge and two stand speakers. Tone control is great and it let's you beef up the sound of the acoustic guitar (nylon and metal string) when playing live and eradicating the harshness of low-end pickup etc. It's a bit redundant on mid- to high-end guitars. The wires for the battery connector are a bit flimsy and can easily break, so it's best to use a power supply. Other than that it's a very solid piece of kit and can take a few beatings.
