What an amazing little instrument. The Aftoton Kalimba is unlike any other instrument that you are likely to find. The sound is unique. First let me state this AKA623 model is actually a Hugh Tracey Kalimba (Alto Model). For those who do not know, when it comes to Kalimbas, Hugh Tracey models are the cream of the crop, they far surpass all other models. Even though this small instrument looks like a toy, do not be fooled, it's a world class piece of kit that could be used by any top percussionist in the world. It's amazing what you can do with the 15 notes and the 2 vibrato holes, everything from simple nursery rhymes to a full rendition of Bob Marley's "Redemption Song" can be played on this small hand held wooden box. It's build using the finest African hard wood, and...

As a music therapist i really wanna add some variety in the musical instruments we use, and i right now when i choose one i only have two things in mind: being easy to play and creating a beautiful sound effortless. This kalimba nails it, it's a great start, it doesn't require musical education and it can fit easily in both children's hands and mine. I hesitated before buying this cause i'm chubby and i have short nails and i was afraid i couldn't use it, but turns out it's fine! definitely gonna buy more !

I was looking for a creative gift for my nephew and while wanting something musical, I wanted something that didn't need batteries, was easy to make noce sounds and wouldn't be too annoying for the parents... This was the solution! I got it delivered to my work so i could check it for sound and sharp edges etc and as soon as I got it unpacked I just couldn't stop playing it - it is an open-plan office and soon there were lots of teammates around curious and at least one of them ordered one of these for his own kids. Duly sent to the intended recipient, he tore the packet open and spent a good while plinking away. Achievement unlocked! All in all a small but great fun instrument to play whatever your age but especially good for kids.
Meinl KA9WW-BK Wah-Wah Kalimba

I used this instrument in every possible way, and played it for the production of different kinds of music. It just sounds good. Pros & Cons The sound and material quality of this instruments is very good for its price. The release of the sound at each hit on the tines is long and gives a calming and harmonious sensations. The screws of the z-bracket are easy to adjust for fine tuning. The box hole is different from traditional kalimbas, but it allows you to create a wah-wah effect that sounds pretty good. The long decay of the sound allows the player to make long and precise wah-wah sounds. Put a reverb on it and you are good to go. Therefore, the box hole adds more possibilities to the instrument than traditional kalimbas. The kalimba fits good in an adults hands. The only remark I...
