Cornell Romany Plus review
After playing this amp for the last few months, I deciced it's time to write a glowing review because it's THAT good.
Sound:
On full wattage it sounds amazingly brilliant. It has got that fender-type sound, clear and chimey but with that tweed/bassman like thud in the bottom end. On the lowest wattage it's sound great, far better than my old hot rod deluxe.
Controls:
The amp has a very particular sound. The controls give enough room to adjust the sound to your liking but it's not super versatile. So you can't get any type of sound with it, and that's fine. Controls are easy to use with a great taper.
Build quality:
Top notch. Even the tophandle flathead screws are aligned perfectly.
Who should buy this amp?
It's in my opinion best suited for blues/jazz style guitarist. I practically live on the edge of breakup and this amp just suits that. However, I can imagine it would works great with pedals as a clean platform amp, despite it not having an fx loop. Furthermore, if you are looking for a home/appartment/bedroom amp, this one works great at low volume.
Conclusion:
This is a great amp at a great pricepoint. There are many "boutique" builders who sell their amps for double the money. I cannot praise it enough. Anyone who is looking for a fender style amp, at least try this one if you have the chance. You won't be disappointed.
