Work horse reverb and delay

This is a very user-friendly pedal. For me 90% of a pedal is the workflow - and the Avalanche Run quickly feels like an extension of your instrument. It does not have a ton of presets, secondary functions etc., but it is intuitive to use, sounds good in almost any setting and the exp. control selector is genius. The ability to quickly switch between controlling reverb time and delay volume for example makes sense to me.

An ambient machine. Also for synths.

I use it with synths, guitar and as external fx in DAW.

Imagine to have two pedals with extras.

DELAY. 4 knobs: time, repeat (builds infinitely after 3 o'clock), tone (vibe changes) dry wet.

1 lever: 3 modes (swell is really cool).

Really interesting to create loops, evolving soundscapes, weird spinning noises.

Season everything with the REVERB (2 knobs, dry wet, decay)

and you'll be in a wood, when snow falls and sound is muffled. Sometimes a fox will show up.

You'll find also a Ratio of delay and EXP knob.

EXP sets which parameter you can control with the expression pedal (not included). You can do really weird stuff with that e.g. glitches, bend time and even do pseudo strings layered together. Extra fun.

A bit tricky the access to TAIL mode (aka: allowing the wet signal to fade after the unit is switched off) that requires a combination of disconnecting the 9V, setting the ratio switch to the target tail length, pressing the Activate switch, reconnect...

Also, keep in mind that is not a stereo effect but stereo through (that is cool in any case).

Final verdict? Satisfied not only for the good sounds and creative potential but also for the build quality, graphics (so beautiful that you'll regret any scratch) and un-boxing experience.

Simply the best

This effects pedal is a really amazing piece of equipment. From straight forward delay and reverb sounds to TRULY otherworldly sounds and scaring delay (it's true), this pedal has it all.

It needs lots of taming though. It is a demanding pedal in terms of getting to know it and how to use it. That being said, you can produce a large variety of sounds through this little pedal.

A must for post rock and progressive players.

Weird, deep, scary and magical

The EQD Avalanche run is not a typical delay pedal, it's a mix of a delay and reverb, but it's none of them at the same time.

I had a hard time finding more uses for this outside of ambient and drones, but EQD pedals are not knows are your grand dad's effects pedal, that's what companies like Boss and TC electronic are for.

The avalanche run has three main mods, normal (literally), swell (magic), and reverse (the weird but great!).

The pedal like all of EQD is true bypass, so I didn't find any impact on my overall sound, and pairing it with a reverb (in my case the Afterneath V2) creates sounds that you didn't even know existed.

But this pedal is not for everyone, if you just need a classic digital delay, just get a flashback 2 for a third of the price.

The Avalanche run is for ambient and drones.

Why buy it?

-You like ambient sounds and drones

-You like to experiment and sound huge

Why not?

A few problems with the pedal are the fact that to get the most out of it, you do need an expression pedal, you don't have to, but it is recommended.

Another unfortunate problem I've encountered with my unite, is the fact that it's a bit of a snob when it comes to power, as it tried to kill my ears when I powered it with my cheap Chinese power brick that powered the rest of my pedals with no effort or problem, and this pedal as most EQD pedals does not have a battery option, so you have to stick to a single adapter or a more expensive PSU.

Not your grand dad's delay pedal.

EQD's excellent delay and reverb amalgam

Delay plus reverb is a great recipe for thickening up your lead sound, creating ambient soundscapes or any sort of atmospheric music in general and the Avalanche Run offers both of these in huge capacity. The reverb sounds dreamy and whooshy at high mix (in a good way), and my favorite feature for the delay side is tapping down for momentary "un-reversing" in the reverse mode - this can be used to create wonderful rhythmic effects. Dialing the delay up to self-oscillation conjures up imagery related to the pedal's name: an avalanche of sound crashing down. The multiple bypass trails modes are handy, from short to infinite which allows you to play on top of a neverending echo.

In this price range, people of course expect amazing quality and feature sets and I think the Avalanche Run lives up to that. I would however say that it has some tonal "distinctness" that is not for everyone. As this is wildly subjective, I recommend listening to several demos of it - maybe you'll like how it sounds, maybe you won't. I did, and it's been a lot of fun.
