I love this groove box

I really love a lot of things about this groove box. The FM sounds it creates are insanely good, the kicks sound incredible. It really excells at creating ambient stuff as well as hard hitting techno.

I am releasing my first single in a few weeks and all of the music was created on the cycles, I couldn't be happier with how it turned out.

The functionality is great, it is so intuiutve and inspires creativity in so many ways. Just playing around with different delay times can create cool grooves and the chance parameters can make almost generative sequences effortlessly.

A few limitations, as to be expected with something so well priced. Only one LFO can be applied to each track, which has left me wanting more from time to time. Also, you can't send the tracks to record separately through the USB, it records all tracks as one signal. I went around this by recording one track at a time which was time consuming but at least allowed for a good mix.

Over all, I think this an excellent machine and so much fun to get stuck into.

Great FM drum machine

Great product. Easy to use, plenty of low end and enough sounds to explore- save for the claps, a bit low on claps from the factory.

This is the first time I use a drum machine, so I can't really compare it with other products in a fair way. I've been recording with it and what I can say is in my opinion it justifies the 300e you pay for it in every way.

Fresh sounding samples, intuitive workflow once you learn how to use the controls. Well built, doesn't feel cheap in any way and I'm quite satisfied with it so far. The only obvious drawback it might have for someone like me (or someone who might want to do live performance with drum machines) is its classic small size with little pads, altough it has midi inputs and you can use it with another device (like a keyboard).

In my unexperienced opinion, it looks like a modern and more sophisticated answer to the Roland TR-08 or TR-09, which cost the same if not slightly more if I'm not mistaken and I was considering buying had I not found out about this one.

Simply put: straightforward, but does the job and it's fun.

Holy s***!!!

It took me a couple of hours to be confortable with the basics of the workflow, but it should be noted that my experience with any of this digital world was nonexistent until I got the Cycles. Started out just trying to make simple 16-step sequences, and went from there. At the end of my first session I found myself making a couple of Nine Inch Nails covers and having a blast!

It's got it's own sound, and I feel like you either like it or not. It's certainly not as aggresive-sounding as some of my favourite electronic pieces, like Aphex Twin and Autechre, but when playing that kind of stuff, it fills it with it's own vibe, and I definitely love it. Coupled with some pedals makes it pop out even more, and I can honestly say that maybe Elektron is charging too little for this box.

Build quality is great, and all that, but... Come on. The sounds matter most, especially in this price range. And there isn't really anything that I wish was different. It has a powerful sequencer, great FM sounds, easy controls, and a fluid workflow.

Basically, if you're on the fence, just get it!

Fun device, good LFO

Great for making beats, lfo is great- easily assignable to any of the many parameters.

Workflow easy enough although hard to undo mistakes.

Chord generator is easy and can produce some excellent sounds.

Would have liked 128 on the pattern rather than 64 and there are work arounds.

For the money hard to argue against it.

Good entry into the world of electron.

FM Drums

We use this to make BASS driven music . We want them LONG BOOM ... this is the one ...

Bass cuts thru like Crazy and the cord are really cool a warm . the FX are better than the Model Cycle . I only with there were 4 instead of 2 ....

Presets are OK enough to Make at least 10 tunes if not more . though I still wish there were More ; but then you would never learn how to use the machine if you are only using presets.

I recommend this specially for the Hole Elektron eko-system and way of thinking . the control ALLLL function Really set both the Cycle and sample apart . VEAR VEAR COOL TOYS .

Easy to pick up, hard to put down

This has elevated what I expect from "low-end" gear. Really great groove box, and a billiant intro to the elektron workflow. I ended up buying the Digitakt and Digitone both about a month after getting this.

pros: incredible sequncer, huge amounts of control at your finger tips, aggressive kicks and fantastic hats

cons: snares can be a bit anemic and might need layered up to cut through. Monosynth sounds can be a bit basic, even with the LFO.

Great little synth

Very immediate, yet still discovering new features every time I use it. Great fun to play with.
