Showtec Shark Zoom Wash One

Showtec Shark Zoom Wash One

I've now got 4 of these, used for AmDram/Musical Theatre on a moderately small stage. I also have a pair of the non-zoom and combi spot sharks. External build quality is nothing special of course, but I have confidence in the Showtec brand (recommended by a pro-supplier I trust, over some of the other budget box shifters). This is quite a small unit but light output is good. The internal fan is not the quietest (fixed speed) and when there are a few of them rigged, the noise is easily picked up by stage mics (well if you have some decent Sennheiser's anyway). I also have a pair of the non-zoom washes and a pair of the combi spots. I would say these zooms are my favourite. They have a good usable zoom range from quite narrow to a decent wash, so can be employed in a number of scenarios....

Eurolite LED TMH-46 Moving-Head Wash

I didn't have much to spend on moving heads. I bought two of these and they did a pretty good job. The motors are quite noisy - my stage set up was very small and up close - they might not be so bad higher up and with louder music to cover the noise. It was my first DMX setup and it took me a while to work out what to do with them. There's quite a steep learning curve. The menu was a mystery to me for ages. I couldn't get the sound to light feature to work when programmed via DMX. Freestanding that worked fine so it's probably just me being slow to understand. I love the effect of moving heads though, they really make a huge difference to a light show.

Stairville MH-110 Wash LED Moving Head

Never have i owned a Movinghead wash with such outstanding light output and build quality for less than 1000 Euros. We are renting them to weddings, concerts, DJ's and more and all of our clients are satisfied with the lights. We bought 8 pcs... After testing them we are buying 20 more. They are lightweight and can be placed where ever you need them, in my opinion these are giving the Martin Rush wash MH2 solid competition. The build quality are over all good it looks like solid molded plastic with a matte finish and a small baseplate. Also the ability to change from 14ch mode to 9ch mode for ease of use is excellent when we are renting them to DJ's. The only thing i miss on these are Zoom, but ey, what can you expect from a head in this price range? Why wait? Buy them and fall in love...

Varytec Hero Wash 640FX

Varytec Hero Wash 640FX

Purchased 2 of these and all I can say is they’re possibly too much for my needs they’re club standard lights. Output is impressive and the sound mode works well. I chose these over the lesser Hero 320 for their split colour display and additional beams for more variety. They have a bit of whirr to them but once the music is on that becomes irrelevant. If I had one complaint is that it doesn’t come with a dedicated remote which I’ve had to buy separately and I’m yet to test to see if it works with them. I presume this is because they’re designed for larger venues with DMX in mind and an array of other lights operated from a proper desk. Overall, a lovely investment and no doubt they will impress people. Couple them with a bit of smoke, stand back and...
