Does the job
Does the job and adds that professional feeling.
Just be aware that rattling might still come from the mic cable.
Could be improved
Definitely helps and works perfectly. I can kick a table on which mic is mounted and it won't be possible to discern in a recording.
However, considering it's fairly expensive for a piece of metal and rubber, it could be better.
The central piece of the shock mount has very small "screws" to connect it to the holder which in turn mounts onto a mic stand. It works wonders if you don't need to move it. However, I have it attached to mic arm and as I move it around a lot, the screws quickly get very lose and it poses a risk for mic to fall down.
I have no idea why EV didn't think this through, it's such a simple matter to make sure that the screws holding the piece together remain stable as you move the shock mount. Frankly the screw that holds the entire shock mount attached to the stand also has the same issue, although it's less noticeable.
I never expected to say this...
In all honesty, I don't think a simple shockmount should cost this much, but I feel like you definitely get what you pay for!
The result is a high quality shockmount that holds my new RE20 very well, and that doesn't get in the way of alternate monitors beside me due to it's 'arch' design.
Overall I'm very happy with the shockmount, and I couldn't recommend anything else for holding your new RE mic.
Only downside I can think of is that it's top screw easily loosens when rotating the mic in a clockwise direction due to it's overall weight, but you'll get that with almost every mount, regardless of design.
The Original Shockmount
Fits like a glove, works like a charm.
