The bass drum head double layer often have a nice dark tone, this monolayer also does it but for me it has an even more defined attack. Then if you think it can last less you can put head protection

Good for rock and metal

This is the perfect head for metal and rock drumming in my opinion. A good firm double ply head with internal muffling ring that is solid enough to give a good rebound while at the same time having a very lose tuning to get that fat low end. Stick a mic inside (preferably a Audix D6) and you are good to go! Normally includes a falam patch which is needed if you play with plastic beater on your pedal (otherwise the head will not last very long)... I usually combine this with a Powerstroke 3 front head with a 3" hole.
