FMR Audio RNC 1773 5-stars Reviews
Oh its really really nice
I am not sure my untrained ears are goign to add much more to the amount of praise already placed on this unit and the RNLA, which I also purchased. RNC in 'Super nice' mode is fantastic on Ac Gtr & vocals and I have been using both units as summing units in my final mixes out of Logic.
They have been adding analogue vibe to my mixes in truck loads. I have had a number of mics modded and have spent some money on Golden Age & Joe Meeks pres. So you can tell I haven't Neumann, Coles, API, etc. kind of budget! These two units however have offered me a great analogue foray 'into' & 'out-of-the-box' at what I think is an amazing price
It is a "Really Nice Compressor".
Sometimes I need some compression for a spoken word recording, but I do not want it to sound heavily compressed.
This RNC can be used in such a way that you get a very gentle compression and it is difficult to tell that there was any compression at all. That is why I bought it!
You can, if you need to, increase the compression level to taste.
Nice, small unit that works well. Great deal for the price!
Works well when directly interfacing it with my mic preamp.
Only con is the "wall wort".
Would highly recommend this to a friend if he needed a compressor.
A 'Really Nice Compressor'
I have had the FMR RNC1173 for a while now and it still amazes me every time I use it in my studio rig. Easy to use and get good levels from. The manual is simple and straightforward, explaining in great detail how best to use the device. A good starting point for any novice or professional.
Build quality is great. Nice smooth knobs and buttons.
Very good value item and can compare with compressors costing several times as much. I can recommend this item for anyone looking for a 'really nice compressor' for their studio or live rig. I intend to buy another one!!!
Great compressor
I got this compressor as I needed a good outboard compressor for my project studio. After reading many good reviews online I decided to get one.
I have to say that I was not disappointed. It sounds amazing, especially for the price, just as I imagine a good compressor should sound like. It is very warm sounding, with the character of both vintage and new gears.
The super-nice button turns it into a great gentle compressor and when this button is off it squashes like crazy - in a very good way. It is like two compressors in one.
I use it mainly to add a bit of life to electronic music. I wish I had better A/D converters so I would use this compressor every time when mixing live instruments.
Beautiful transparent sound
This transparent, reliable and easy to use piece of gear is the most cost-effective and pleasant sounding compressor I have ever used, and at just 1/3 rack space it is perfect for a small studio such as mine. Particularly in SuperNice mode, you can barely notice the compressor is even operating. This is ideal for vocals where you need to tame the dynamic range but without squashing the life out of your singer. I wouldn't recommend it for bass or kick drums/snares, but put it across a vocal or acoustic guitar buss and you really can't go wrong. I use this on every song.
Try the 'Super Nice' Setting
This is a great piece of outboard gear!
Not only for the money, but across the board. The standard compression setting is exactly what you want for your percussion sounds. However if your looking for something a little more subtle and musical, i.e Vocals, Guitars, Strings, the 'Super Nice' setting will answer all your prayers.
The only fault I can pick on this unit is that its not rack mountable, easily changed with a open ended rack drawer though.
A little great box
I bought this compressor after reading its reviews online, I have to admit that the reviews don't make justice to it. The RNC is simply superb, one of the nicest compressors I've ever laid my hands on in 25 years in the business and I do own a few units 10 times more expensive. The Super Nice function really does a fantastic job, particularly when inserted in the st buss. It could do with balance I/O's but its sound quality makes up for it...
