Perfect match for genelec 8020 monitors
I have been using the genelec 8020D for 1 year and have been deciding on a subwoofer . My usage is mostly dj mixing . The genre i mix is electronic music , trance , techno and house music . A subwoofer is needed for my genre so finally i purchased the genelec 7040 . Indeed it makes the sound more full . The headroom it gives the monitor is excellent , making the highs and mids more accurate . The subwoofer is not small , its quite big for a 6.5 inch but a slim factor . The dip switch will take time to calibrate and get the bass decay and attack right with proper crossover . this is fully analog so there is no dsp . A good buy for genelec 8010 and 8020 owners .
Excellent!
Excellent clear bass. Very solidly built.
Debated for a very long time over which monitors to get for my home studio. Decided to go with this and my 8020D's. Best decision I ever made. Highly recommended (or course with the relevant studio monitors)
Fantastic sound at reasonable price!
On various forums I read that Genelec sub woofers are over priced and that similar or better results can be achieved with some sub woofers from hi-fi audio market, at a lower cost. I decided to take the risk and try my luck with 7040. This was my sixth sub woofer and with previous five I was never able to achieve proper balance between the main speakers and the sub. There was always some boominess of the lower end and the bass was either bloated or not present. My room is not treated and the only spot the sub could go was right in the corner, next to the right main speaker. I followed Genelec's recommendations and adjusted the dip switches for the in corner position and the magic happened! I had to play with the volume a bit but it was a different, well balanced kind of a sound!
I was a bit skeptical about letting the sub restrict what goes to the main speakers (nothing under 85 Hz) but that actually improved the sound of the main speakers. They sound more open and relaxed. Another benefit is that bass is present regardless of the sound level you are listening at. Sub is not affecting the sound level sent to it, so you don't have to play it loud in order to activate the sub. Some people may not find the specs too impressive but I was not looking for -3 dB at 20 Hz since I am living in an apartment building and that would not be the most pleasant experience for the people living above and below us. The sound I am getting is very clear and musical. I am very happy with my choice!
If there is an area of criticism, the sub does not have any protective feet at the bottom of it so it will be scratched if placed on the hard surface.
Bigger than you think.
I had Genelec's 8010's for years, and it was a nice crisp sounding travelling setup. As long as you didn't push them too hard and your material not too bass heavy.
Then I got the 7040 sub with my second set of 8010's, and boy a difference.
Punchy, yet precise bass, and SPL in spades from the 8010's , still crisp clean.
I now often prefer this setup for near/mid field over my massive Genelec 8260's. I actually had to tame the room modes in SW, that's how low the 7040 reach IRL.
Recommended if you need precision over SPL down to 30hz in a smaller room.
Powerful sub in amazing small packate
I am buying this to accompany my pair of 8030C bought half a year ago for the low end extension.
My room is tiny measuring ~ 2m*3m with a wardrobe making the listening space 1m away from speakers and sub, I opt for the 7040 since it's the only quality sub with highpass filter which fits and don't take up my leg room.
At first I was a bit worried it won't be powerful enough being a 6.5" driver in tiny package, ended up it's a perfect match, with the sensitivity knob matching the Genelec monitors for seamless cross over, and dip switches very easy to make them either having flat bass down to 30hz and hearable at 25hz, or to make it slightly bass elevated by 2db as in preference curve, this is the best purchase decision in my audio journey, now I have almost full 20-20khz sound which is very smooth, can't recommend it more in any space limited rooms
Great sub!
I really thought that this sub will blow out my room, cause i never had a sub woofer and my mixing room is medium size, but it worked out. Now i can feel the sub in my room, which is perfect for mixing low end, i just realize how bad i was mixing the low end, or how i wasnt using the whole spectrum. Im very exting to heat my new productions using this sub, its a 6 inch so its very useful for medium size rooms, now i can mix propertly!. I reccomend using this with the genelec near field monitors.
Genelec 7040 APM
Coupled with 8020 is one of the best solution for have a reference in music and audiovisual. This is not AES, all analog but my mix with this kit sounds correct everywhere.
So good,so compact size offering the truly 35hz frequency response
I have a set of Genelec 8010,so I bought it for low frequecy monitoring.
The thickness of this subwoofer ideal and prefect. You can put almost in everywhere in your studio without complex placement. The sound is very, very clear with super high dynamic and very low power consumption.(Thanks to the class-D amplifier).
With the combination of Genelec 8010,it is the highest sound quality specker set in the whole market at this price. No other speakers can go beyond it at this price.I'm very sure.
Wonderful subwoofer that can highly enhance the performance of your sound system especially if you use Genelec 8010 together. As its a professional monitor, positions of the speakers are important to achieve the best sound.
simply amazing
i use 7040 along with pair of 8020c extending their frequency by one octave. out from the box sound is great (classic genelec) but after calibrating speakers and room with rew software - bass became even tighter and more precise. 7040+8020 is truly great setup for music production as well as entertainment. highly recommended
