The best guitar in the world!
Nice
Good guitar Pure lês paul
Iâve been a Fender Custom Shop Player for all me Life. I was âWrongâ
Absolutely stunning. I can’t believe how much I didn’t appreciate the craftsmanship (person) that goes into Gibson Guitars. I have a Standard 60’s hanging between Custom Shop Fender Hardtail and a Hendrix Strat. The difference in quality is something everyone has mentioned. These are none guitar players.
On a personal note the pick ups are really hot on the 60’s compared to Fender Texas Specials and Hendrix pickups.
Very poorly finished guitar, very disappointed
On inspecting my new guitar I found the following issues:
binding very badly finished with small gouges out of the fretboard, rough frets, bits of dried polishing compound stuck to the lacquer, some fisheye marks in the lacquer, top of headstock poorly finished, control cavity cover plate fitted crooked, a shallow indentation in the wood at the back of the body, some marks on the bridge pickup cover. My 2017 Les Paul Classic T has none of these issues. The guitar is sitting in its box in the hall ready to be returned tomorrow. I was really looking forward to this purchase, to say I am disappointed is an understatement and would not purchase a new Gibson again unless I could inspect it first as Gibson quality control can't be trusted unfortunately.
Quality issues.
Clearly Gibson still have some quite serious quality issues. The fretboard was dry like Sahara and it was not very well sanded. You can feel it is lightly rough. You can see tool markings on the fretboard too and some small dints. The stopbar tailpiece was not screwed fully/properly to the body. The setup out of box was quite poor with pretty high action. You can feel the joint between binding and the body and neck like they did not routed really precisely for the binding. One of the tone knobs is quite loose too. Factory strings are crap. Unbelievable how it passed their QA. I'll keep it because I've been waiting for it and always wanted to have one, but I have to say my two Epis ('59 and StdPro) were much better out of the box and overall better finfish quality, setup, etc. I'd say the extra €1500-€1700 seems to be for the shipping from US and the name on the headstock.
Besides the QA issues, overall it is a great instrument and sounds really good, but needed some love (fretboard oil and setup). The rest could be fixed by the good luthier I suppose. That should not be the case though for the instrument in that price range.
Very good guitar, a real Gibson tone, good wood and hardwares, an amazing experience!
Only one bad thing is the hardware where we put the strap, that is so small, Gibson could put a better one to keep the guitar safe!
Ordered during the pandemic fast delivery, no damage during shipping.
Superb tone both clean and overdriven. Action and playability excellent and what you would assume to get from a guitar at this price point.
Finish is brighter than in the picture
Very nice guitar
The colour of this Les Paul is lovely, great finish.
Not keen on the fret board colour.
Sound is great, like my 1976 custom, not too overdriven,
The neck is nice though a bit too wide. I am sure I will get used to it, feels much better than the 50s model.
Only problem is I needed to take it to a guitar luthier to make some fine adjustments to the nut and a some frets, and set up.
Will add more when I get it back later next week.
I wish the guitar was a but heavier tbh, though its not light by any means, but not as heavier as my 1976 custom.
* OK, back from the pro luthier, needed to file some of the nut, and some of the frets too, adjust the intonation etc
Its like a different guitar, totally wonderful! class stuff.
This is the true return of the legend from the 1960s!
You do not have to buy a guitar from Custom Shop anymore, the new standard series is enough.
