For archtop
To my ears P90 lacked thickness and middles + too much treble. I replaced P90 in my archtop with this pickup and got much more the sound I like: thick, round and still clean balanced sound.
Great Upgrade for a low/mid value guitar
I put two of these in a Schecter C1+ to replace the stock 'Designed by Duncan's. It resulted in a much better sounding axe - clarity and sustain that was not there before.
Simple hot & ground conductors so no coil splitting available with these
I replaced my Epiphone Les Paul's neck pickup with this one.
It made a huge difference to the sound, so I sadly don't need an upgrade yet. It's clear, I can get a great Wes tone out of it, and makes a supper funky yet warm middle position. What I don't like is the massive overpowering bass and scooped mids. It doesn't come close to an original PAF which had less bass and was a bit single-coil-y. Other than that, it is a solid investment.
A standard
Excellent at the neck of a Les Paul with a 57 Classic Plus at the bridge.
Vintage sound and output
I wanted a more vintage sounding pickup instead of the 496r that was put in the neck position of my LP Traditional by the previous owner.
This is a very nice sounding, kinda low output humbucker. I like that it retains clarity even with higher gain and it reacts to very well changes in volume/pick attack. Compared to 486r it has much less output and bass frequency content, but that only makes it sound clear, not thin. The 486r could get a bit muddy with more gain on the amp.
Overall I am very satisfied with this pickup. I think this is the pickup to get if you want that old school LP blues/rock sound. I would probably not use this pickup for metal. The original pickup was more useful in that kind of scenario.
great lead tones
the output is not too high that it is loses definition with distortion engaged.
The king of all humbuckers
Used in an Epiphone Les Paul.
If you want the sound of old school jazz guitar, or the singing lead guitar sounds of 70s prog rock, look no further.
This pickup, installed in an appropriate guitar, can unlock the legendary tones of Yes, Camel, Wishbone Ash, Genesis and more. However, in my opinion, you can end up with a really sterile and uninspiring overdriven tone unless you spend some time playing with volume, tone, amp and pedal settings.
Beauty in a box
Beautiful warm sounding pick up with good hum free output.
Awesome Jazz monster
The tone and volume of this pup is outstanding. Makes playing Jazz so pleasant.
Superb sound! My epiphone guitar sounds is now unbelievable
Bought this 57 Classic to upgrade my Epiphone ES175.
The result is simply wonderful. The sound on the clean channel of a Fender Pro Champion is simply superb: Rich, heart warming, the sound I was looking for for years.
Also, in my opinion for once, Gibson has positioned the price very reasonably making it very much affordable to anybody.
I simply recommend it as an upgrade to any electric guitar especially for playing the blues or some Jazz.
The upgrade itself is very and is very simple to perform and is at the reach of most normal person.
So do not hesitate to go for it. You will simply not believe the result....
