This is a fun instrument, no sharp notes and when I bought mine there was no model with sharp notes available. The sound is short but forceful, almost rhythmic and works very well for reinforcing hook and riffs both for acoustic and electric instrument. It has none of the bell like ring of the metallophone and while they may look like very similar instruments the sounds they produce inspires very different kinds of music. This instrument has more of a dark feel to it whereas the metallophone is bright and airy this is dark and damp. This is an instrument well suited for making interesting rhythmic backgrounds especially when used in combination with electric guitar.

Bought this for my 2 year old son to replace a horrible untuned metal one, it sounds beautiful, looks delightful and can take a fair beating without signs of damage thanks to appropriate material choice of the beaters and the wooden keys. He asks to play with it all the time and is a bit more gentle with it now after the initial excitement.

This is a marvelous instrument. It is perfectly made. Its compact shape makes it very practical to store in the classroom. But you don't want to store it because it is beautiful. The tones are extremely melodious for a xylophone, with very little "wood" overtones. The only difficulty it creates in the classroom is that everyone wants to play it, which is a credit for the instrument, as children are very sensitive to beauty. It's well worth saving money to be able to add this item to your instrumentarium. I have two and hope to get more of them in due course.
