Yamaha Stage Custom Birch 18"x15" RB

I bought this to replace my 22 inch Recording Custom BD for when I have a small or jazz gig. It came with Remo "UT" heads both with control rings on the inside, which look like fairly thick heads more suitable to rock or general purpose. I put on and tuned up the batter head low to medium tension and the front a little higher, with no damping. As soon as I played I couldn't believe how good this drum sounded. Great tone and low end. It certainly gave my other 22 inch drums a run for their money. I have done a couple of small gigs with it since and I can see already I'll be carrying a lot less 22 inch drums to gigs from here on. I think if you wanted it purely for a bop kit though you would be better off with thinner heads. The only negative thing I can say about it though is...
DrumCraft Series 6 18"x14" Bass Drum SN

I had been in the market for a 18" Bass drum for a while and had invested a long time searching for different options. I decided to go with DrumCraft 6 Series after reading about them online, and boy am I happy I did. The build materials are in the premium range. Beautifully crafted drum with pristine finishes that attest to the craftmanship that went into making one of these bad boys. Sound quality is what you would expect for a Maple Tier drum. Can sound surprisingly big for its size, while cutting thru the mix beautifully. Can also be tuned high for its obvious bebop and jazz qualities. Truely a Premium bass drum for a very affordable price range. Very happy I gave it a shot.
Yamaha Stage Custom 18"x15" BD HA

I use this in my home studio as a part of a mini snare-hihat-kick kit, and it’s such a lovely drum. It packs enough punch and gives a very pleasant “boom” when tuned right, even with the stock heads. Construction is very solid as you would expect from Yamaha. The colour looks even juicer in person, brightens up the room.
Pearl Export 18"x14" Bass Drum #704

This cute little drum has a very nice full sound to it, if not comparable to a 22". Perfect for jazzy purposes and for small traveling kits like mine. It looks awsome, has 8 spanners per ring, which is plenty on such a small diameter, for perfect tunability. Velcro mounted muffling cushon included and pre-mounted. I think this is a great deal and to me sounds better than expected.
Tama 18" Club Jam Pancake Bass -CHM

As I play acoustic jazz this bass drum offers a good bass sound at a low volume which I like. The one fault I find with it is the size of the brackets for holding the bass drum spurs . The brackets could have been engineered to be more neatly finished. As they stand they protrude too far from the side of the drum and makes it difficult to find a suitable protective cover for the drum itself.
