I really like this floor tom. It's big, it's "juicy", but with the right heads. Manufacturer heads are not really good, so I would recommend if buying this tom, buy new heads immediately. Also that's the reason why 3 stars for sound. You can survive with default, but I personally wouldn't recommend them.

The quality of the Yamaha Stage Custom drums is unbelievable, considering the low price tag. Simply replace the stock heads with professional ones, and you will be approaching the high-end category. For this drum I chose Remo Clear Emperor over Clear Ambassador. Great low-end punch and resonance. Love it!

Yamaha's Recording Custom series speaks for itself, but as with many other things these days, it's often hard to come across a ware and trying it out extensively first before buying it.. The good news is, even though you may not be able to do that, that you probably will not be disappointed! The drums from this series all share the same property, which pretty much boils down to: "you can make them sound exactly the way you want, if you know what you're doing". Is that a big compliment/statement? I'm just an amateur but will vouch for it (having tried 10,12,13,14,16 and 20 inch power toms). You will definitely notice that these drums have much more tone and (if desired) long hanging resonance if need be. I tuned mine to have quite a pitch bend, but even so the drums still...

Great floor tom from Gretsch. Workmanship is great and the finish looks classic. It's easy to adjust leg heights and position. I've given it a sound of 4 stars as the 'Clear Remo Emperor' batter head wasn't to my liking. I fitted a 'Remo 16" Vintage Emperor Coated' and it's outstanding. Overall, worth every penny and would definitely buy more Gretsch kit.

It's great sound for recording. I had Gretsch Catalina Club floor tom and Catalina floor tom's sound is like a box. Renown Maple floor tom is the professional drum with high quality hardware and very good sound with long sustain. Perfect for recording any music style.

The floor tom works great if you have a stage custom set. You can tune them fairly low and they sound great. If you want to tune them higer, you might want to consider an 18 to go along for the extra depth in your sound. In my opinion Yamaha always delivers

I have used this tom as a kick drum using the pearl jungle kit adapter. Initially I was disappointed with the sound but after investing in some high end heads which cost me nearly as much as the drum, I have a decent sound. Something I do not like is the obvious seam on the wrap
