Founded : 1952
Guild is an American manufacturer of stringed instruments and amplifiers, founded in 1952 by Alfred Dronge, a guitarist and music store owner, and George Mann, an electronics engineer. The company initially specialized in archtop jazz guitars, and quickly gained a reputation for quality and innovation.
In the early 1960s, Guild began producing electric guitars and basses, and in 1965, they introduced the iconic Starfire series. This was followed by the introduction of the M-75 Aristocrat in 1967, which became the company’s most popular guitar.
In the 1970s, Guild expanded its product line to include acoustic guitars, mandolins, banjos, and ukuleles. In 1977, the company was purchased by Avnet, Inc., and moved its production facilities to Westerly, Rhode Island.
In the 1980s, Guild began producing the popular D-40 and D-50 acoustic guitars, as well as the F-30 and F-50 electric guitars. In 1995, the company was acquired by Fender Musical Instruments Corporation, and in 2000, they introduced the Newark St. Collection, a line of vintage-style guitars.
Today, Guild continues to produce a wide range of acoustic and electric guitars, basses, and other stringed instruments, as well as amplifiers and accessories. They are known for their commitment to quality craftsmanship and modern design, making them one of the most respected names in the music industry.
