Höfner HGL5 Green Line Reviews
Very Happy!
I was making a more determined effort to learn classical guitar so decided to upgrade from an all laminate guitar.
I liked that the HGL5 uses European woods, is made in Germany and came just inside my budget.
The HGL5 is a light guitar. Substantially lighter than my previous guitar. The mat finish seems to be pretty thin, the texture of the wood is still apparent. This should bode well for the sound but It wont stand up to small dings the way a thick gloss lacquer would.
Finish is good. The action is good. I like that the rosette is real wood and not a transfer.
If I look real close I can see sanding marks around the heel, something gloss lacquer would have hidden. The D string sticks at the nut. Overall nothing that detracts from this being a well made guitar.
The HGL5 has decent volume, it is loud enough to give my dreadnought a run for its money when finger picking. The sound doesn't lack anywhere. The bass is strong and the trebles are quite mellow, not dull or overly bright.
I have no regrets in buying the HGL5. I love its looks and soud.
