Thomastik Mandolin Set light

These are very good quality strings that last a very long time in use. Sound is excellent too - if - you like the flatwound sound - some do some don't, only way to find out is to try them and see. Unlike most mandolin string sets these have a wound A string, giving less difference in tone as you move from course to course. On the down side, these are painfully expensive (so just as long they last a long time then!) and those wound A strings are outrageously fragile: the core breaks pretty much as soon as you wind them round the post. That's actually fine as long as you don't need to remove them before then next change and make sure the cloth-wound section is on the string post, but no good for us set-up guys. Other than that, if you want a flatwound set on a vintage bowlback then these...
Pyramid Bandurria / Laud Strings
Based on 2 reviews
I am playing on an old Spanish Laud 50 years old. I looked for strings that will reflect its special tones and harmonies. I chose the Pyramid Bandurria / Laud Strings because I am familiar with Pyramid strings for along time. I have them also on my Sukkar Syrian Oud and my Turkish Saz. The sound is superb! The quality is also outstanding as all Pyramid strings. I guess that for Bandurria you will need to cut them more because the scale is much shorter. The sound on my Spanish laud is warm , full of harmonies and just great! Rock on!
Hannabach 2500 Aoud Strings
Based on 1 reviews
I was hesitant to pay so much money for a set of Oud Strings whilst there are several other cheaper brands. I have been a professional oud player for over 30 years and tried almost all brands of strings in the market but always there was something missing in the sound. I have come across Hannabach Aoud Strings by chance but was surprised of the high price. However when I read the description I was attempted to sacrify my money and buy them. I really do not regret that , these are the most sounding strings I have ever tried. They doubled the sound of my Oud and I could play all fine touches on my oud without losing any definition. I do not think I would be able to play again on any other strings. I have 5 high quality ouds and I could hear the difference, in fact I have stopped playing on...
La Bella CT750 Cuban Tres Strings
Based on 1 reviews
I'm personally not a stage Tres player, but I use the instrument to compose and give a feeling and colour to the composition. There are not a lot of strings choices for the Cuban Tres instrument out there, but from all the choices there are, La Bella CT 750 strings are definitively the one to go for me and for many other Tres players I know in Cuba and in Puerto Rico, where they play the instrument. They feel pretty good while playing, they "ring" very long and gives those overtones that the Cuban Tres is known for. Price is "fair" for the quality it offers. I take with me always, when travelling to Cuba, quite a few sets to give to the Tres players there and they love it,..actually they were the one who recommended me to buy it. It would be good for the users also,...
John Pearse 5220B Bouzouki Strings
Based on 1 reviews
These are quite unique as the only set which can be used in any configuration. If you want ball end - you got it. If you want loop end - a stout pair of wire cutters or combination pliers and one snip can cut through the brass ball end, converting them to loop end. If you want unison pairs - you got it, (with a spare .011 and .016). If you want octaves - you got it (with a spare wound .028 and .040). The only fixed parameter is the bell bronze winding 80/20. If you're a musician or roadie without wire cutters or combination pliers - what are you doing trying to re-string an instrument?
Optima Mandolin Strings Chrom Special
Based on 1 reviews
The gauges are stated on the back of the pack as .010 .013 .022 .036 The description says, "Flat-wound" - (smooth comfortable feel). The pack states "Polished" - (even more comfortable). A and E Chrome steel. Nickel and chrome are more magnetic than iron, so more output to magnetic pickups. (Not applicable to me). This set only has 2 wound pairs. The Perfection set has 3, but I'm not sure if that would make the lighter wound string more prone to breaking? I may try those in future for comparison.
Pyramid Renaissance-Lute Strings
Based on 1 reviews
This is a quality set of nylon strings with silver-plated wound basses. In terns of materials, they are like classical guitar strings, but at the appropriate gauges. The first 6 courses are unison and the two diapasons are in octaves. Given the price, they represent excellent value for money. You might be a purist and want to use gut, or you might like the modern alternative, nylgut, a specially extruded nylon treated to feel and sound like gut (Nigel north uses those.) You will pay a lot more for those. After WWII, when nylon became commercially available, virtually all guitarists stopped using gut and changed to nylon. The sound is different, but the reliability and durability are orders of magnitude better. You can bet your boots that if nylon had been available in renaissance times,...
Aquila Ambra 900 Nylgut Class. Guitar
Based on 2 reviews
I bought this set for a reproduction of a vintage flamenco guitar. I might have found the right strings for it, after trying regular nylon and other materials, coating, different tensions, not changing them for months... The most outstanding feature I feel is with the trebbles, they have a rough-ish surface, this adds a bit extra friction noise almost as if they were wounded like the basses, thus adding sparkle. I like the feeling on the touch and on the sound, it seems to close the gap between basses and trebbles, very well balanced in all aspects as well as tension, which feels like high, mid-high. When putting them on I found they where stiffer and stretchier than regular nylon strings. I only tried real gut strings once and briefly a long time ago but I think this nylgut might have...
Pyramid Irish Bouzouki Strings 671/8B
Based on 9 reviews
O.K. so I've just received a lovely new Irish Bouzouki and wanted some spare strings. I haven't even decided on my preferred tuning yet! Reading the instrument reviews shows that some players prefer octave strings for the G and D (as in this set), while others prefer to double up on wound G and D pairs. I simply ordered 2 sets! Now I have the option either way and if I choose to double up with wound strings, there will be a pair of thinner strings to try in a different position. Wikipedia references show a common tuning as G-D-A-D. This set G-D-A-E, I thought was octave mandolin. They sound good anyway and there is a lot of experimentation and controversy still about tuning!
Aquila Ambra 800 Nylgut Class. Guitar

I restaured an old romantic guitar from around 1800. I was afraid of tension to this old guitar, so i needed light tension, and preferable strings that mimic the sound of the old gut strings from that time. I decided to give these Aquilas a shot. The strings are VERY decent and have a warm tone. Only cons are: the highest string (E or 1st) kept snapping when i got close to the tone (i tuned the guitar a half step lower). I decided to tune the guitar up from a B (si) by half a tone a day, which worked. The strings remain stable in tune after 5-10 tuning sessions.
