Harley Benton DB01-CB Electric Double Bass

This is a really decent quality instrument which comes with a built in mp3 player input and headphone socket as well as the standard jack so you can practise along in silence without even needing an amp. Another great thing about the headphone socket is you have a built in monitor which means you're not dependent on a sound engineer for decent monitoring. The build quality is great, the wooden neck feels tough and is really nice to hold and to play. I'm new to playing bass so the dots on the fingerboard are really useful, though I'm not sure if they are standard on a bass. I can't say much about the sound quality as I've only put this through a tiny amp. Criticisms? The EQ on mp3s seems to be really treble heavy, missing a lot of the bass frequencies - possibly on purpose for...

I have been and electric guitar bass player for one 40 years and have always wanted an upright. Don't have room for a full sized acoustic double bass and so this looked like a reasonable compromise. I love this instrument, it looks great, feels nice, sounds really good and played well straight out of the box and was even in tune! There's no way this is going back, it's definitely a 'keeper' 👍 Originally ordered a Harley Benton, but due to ongoing delivery problems, bought this one instead and although more expensive, it's definitely a quality instrument and so worth the extra cost if you can afford it.
Harley Benton DB02-LH/BK Elec. Double Bass

I'm an electric bass/guitar player and for a long while I've wanted to try my hand at upright. Being left-handed means my options were limited however, so I was happy to discover this particular bass. This bass itself is sturdy, and sounds fantastic through my bass amp - smooth and punchy. And despite shipping across the ocean, it came ready to play out of the box and pretty much still in tune.. My only qualm is the endpin - it's somewhat flimsy, especially when extended further down. I'm quite tall, so I need to bring it nearly all the way out when standing. I'll sit for now and look into getting a stand.
NS Design NXT4a-DB-SB Double Bass

This is a fine quality bass. The bass, as delivered, was strung with NS Contemporary strings, which are light gauge and a bit too electric bass-sounding for me, so I replaced them with NS Traditional strings. They are a slightly heavier gauge and you need to dig in a bit more, which improved the instrument immediately. The action is adjustable via the bridge (and truss-rod) so it's very easy to get your ideal set-up. Sound quality, using an AER Bass One, really approaches a double bass, but you are never going to replicate a big acoustic box. The instrument is well-built from maple, with an ebony fingerboard. The minimalist design is a continuation of Ned Steinberger's bass guitar work from the eighties, and is very easy on the eye. It is extremely portable using the gig bag.

I've wanted to play double bass almost my entire life. Having played fretless bass on and off for about a decade, I figured it was time to take the plunge and settled on this. Mainly due to the cool looking scroll headstock, as opposed to the sort of ugly square ones on the 2 or 3 other entry level EUBs on the market. This is my first EUB so I don't have much of a frame of reference. However the fit and finish seem solid, the neck is nice and actually quite comfortable (not as thick as I was anticipating) and it sounds as I imagine an electric upright should sound. For an entry level instrument, I find it sounds quite smooth and warm. It has "that" sound that just sings and oozes cool. The sound it produces just makes me want to continue playing. The tone controls allow you to...

I have been playing guitar and bass since I was in grade school (61yo now) and wanted to try out Stand-up Bass just for something different. One of my 4 bass guitars is a Harley Benton 5 string PJ bass that I just love... quality, sound, and playability. Some of the other reviews I've read on here are borderline ridiculous! "Lack of directions!" Come on! How much directions do you really need for this?? I replace the fiberglass extension rod with an aluminum one, but that was an easy fix and was my ONLY complaint. Of course it doesn't sound like a full body acoustic double bass, but when you mic or amp them, they begin to not sound so much like a full body double bass either! I've only had this bass for a few days, but already have learned the slightly different techniques...

My initial goal was to get a double bass that I could transport around easily. Considering the dimensions and weight, it packs up decently compact and transportation is easy. Since it is a narrow instrument, storing it is a great convenience. The sound of this instrument leans into the tone of the double bass, though it sets itself apart with its unique tone thanks to the instrument being electric. I've recorded tracks with it and played live concerts with it, and it sounds great. A particular problem I ran into with this double bass is that the end pin it comes with is wobbly when extended out far enough. For someone who is tall, this makes it a challenge to play comfortably when starting out. Overall, I am satisfied with this bass.
Yamaha SLB 300 Silent Bass

The SLB 300 silent Bass has new electronics which better match a real double bass.. at least thats what the hype is saying. I bought one and this is what I found. Pros. I had seen the few youtube clips with the SLB 300. I was really keen to get a better sounding Electric upright bass. I play rockabilly / Rocknroll and had been practicing with the SLB100 and The Stagg EDB over the last 15 years. Both these electric uprights sound Ok ish but nothing like a proper Upright bass. In the youtube clips everyone was saying how good the SLB 300 sounds. Well, I can confirm that the sound is really as good as they say. If you are looking for an electric upright, you must at least test a SLB 300. Although very expensive, they sound really great. Very like the real thing. Cons. I have the SLB 100 for...
