Harley Benton DC-Junior TV Yellow 5-stars Reviews
Great guitar
I needed a lighter guitar to help me out during marathon 3 hour gigs and wanted to add that P90 sound.
Very impressed with this. Flawless finish. Perfect setup right out the box. Intonation of every string spot on, no need for adjustment.
Roswell pickup not quite as hot as it could be, but delivers that P90 tone. Just add gain to taste.
Really nice purpleheart (amarynth) fretboard - plays fast and smooth and allows for easy bending with comfortable cutaway access to top fret. Better dressed frets than I've had on much more expensive guitars.
I'd saw a YouTube review saying the tone pot was dead between 2 and 8. Not this one; there's a fine sweep on both pots - and volume pot cleans up well. A single P90 at the bridge is never going to have the versatility of other types of guitar, but this is a straightforward rock machine.
Might consider installing a shim under the dogear at some point to increase depth of tone and increase output, and some locking tuners.
All in all - best buy I've made in a while. For any level of player this is a great guitar.
Amazing value guitar
Bought this guitar a few weeks ago fully expecting to do some work on it. No need, nothing to do, great neck and set up, Its the cheapest guitar I own by a long way, but it has become a favourite. The build quality and tone are amazing at this price point. Take note Gibson.
Sweet!!! But...
This guitar is sweet to play, fits the hand perfectly and frankly the quality astounded me. Guitar is actually on par with the newer Gibson DCs.
The ONLY thing I was disappointed in was the pickup. Stock pup sounded almost Fenderish instead of having any grit and bite. I ordered a SD Antiquity P90 and swapped it in. Change was astonishing! Sounds like Jrs from the past!
The price of the guitar is great but I would have happily paid an upcharge for the SD as an option.
How about a couple different colors?
Wow!
This is an absolutely excellent guitar for the money. Not so much TV Yellow but you can forgive that for the sheer quality of the guitar. Sounds great!
Wonderfull
Got one of these a few weeks ago and have hardly put it down
Sounds amazing through My 'Bugera' and is so light I can stand with it for hours, It came out of the Box totally Set up and even still in Tune My only criticism the Finish is thin and the varying colours of the Wood can be seen through it otherwise as good as any Guitar I have ever had.
Just like Johnny Thunders
Lightweight. Very nice guitar. Good sound. But I want to change bridge and pickup.
If my 8 year old daughter takes it from me, I will buy another one.
Great Value for money!
I was blown away with the quality of this guitar, very well made and easy to play. The pickup that comes in the guitar is very trebley, but on such an affordable guitar most people could upgrade the pickup, which is what I did.
Currently just for home use, with the possibility of gigging in the future, I would not be embarrassed to use this guitar on stage.
The colour is not TV yellow as advertised, but a darker more mustard yellow. The body and neck are coated in a fairly thick polyurethane high gloss finish, that could become sticky in high humidity. The bridge has adjustable saddles which had to be pushed rather far to the back in order to intonate some strings, however it was possible to intonate it perfectly. Wilkinson tuners look great and function well.
Great guitar for the money, get two.
Wow.
Couldn't wait for this beauty to arrive and boy am I not disappointed.
Feels great and sounds just as good, a real looker and I really enjoy cranking up the volume and rocking with this star guitar.
Not Just A Good Guitar For The Money.A Good Guitar.Period.
I had seen all the reviews of Harley Benton guitars and was wary about hype but finally decided to tip my toes in the water and buy one.I went for a Dc Junior reasoning it was a simple guitar and if anything was wrong it wouldn't take much to rectify.I needn't have worried this thing out of the box shocked me the fit and finish and even set up put more expensive well known brands to shame. The Indonesian factory that is making these things is doing sterling work. I took off the control cavity and found full size pots neatly tied and soldered braided wire fully shielded cavity and backplate. There are USA guitar makers who don't have this level of detail.Took off the scratchplate and found an impeccable neck joint.Tuners work just fine like old school Klusons. Nut cut perfect. The fully intonatable wraparound bridge is better than Gibsons and it doesn't tilt forward and I didn't have any issues with sharp saddles digging into my hands like other reviewers mentioned. The pickup height yeah well thats the inherent design fault of dog ear pickups just like the old Gibsons if you want it higher you have to invest in a shim or raise the polepieces but it sounds bitey and does the neck pickup thing when you roll off the tone. The colour reminds me of some old school aged tv yellows it's not the banana colour people wrongly call tv yellow this is more of a see thru mustard. I like it.This is the cheapest electric guitar I have ever bought and it's one of my faves it's just hard to put down.
Just a fantastic guitar!
I was in shock when i opened the box and the guitar was set up better than a 1000$ Fender i recently bought!
The frets are all perfect, not a single blemish in the paintjob, nothing is loose and the intonation was almost spot on, I only had to adjust it a bit because i have a hard grip.
The action was also perfect, no buzzing and the neck relief spot on too.
The guitar is light and the neck is very comftorable, the paint on the neck isnt sticky like it gets on some guitars when you get sweaty,
The only con is that the pickup is too low, but that is a popular con on the original Gibson LP Jr. guitars. It can be easily fixed by getting p90 spacers on ebay, or raising the polepieces.
Im very impressed by this guitar, will probably buy a sc junior soon!
Harley Benton does it again
This little guitar is superb for its price point. I would suggest a learner would feel the part, learning chops and strums (in front of a tall mirror). It is very light in weight and has a lively mid to top end in its sound. For me, this guitar will be employed when over-dubbing guitar parts, to add sparkle to a chunky low end HB LP, thanks to the legend that is a P90. There is nothing about this guitar that I don't like; although the tuners look a little cheap, but it also holds its tuning well. My only cons would be that the paint work could be of a more solid consistency, and more yellower than mustard colour. TB loves HB.
