Nice warm guitar.
Really nicely made guitar with a very comfortable neck that plays lovely.
Slight roll to fingerboard edges and great fret ends, but frets themselves were very scratchy. During set-up I went from 1000 - 10,000 grit and they polished up nicely, but still have some scratchiness on frets 4-9 on B and E strings. I'll play them in a bit and have another polish during the next string change.
No dead frets, action was fine, you might want it lower but I was happy with it.
Intonation was very sharp. Took a long time to get the low E to intonate and my saddle spring is very compressed. I probably wouldn't recommend this guitar for anyone wanting to go lower than drop D.
The guitar is very warm sounding. That's A-OK with me, but even splitting the coil in the bridge position still has a warm sound. Get's very muffled if you turn down the tone.
Nicely put together, no dings or marks, finish overall is great, very comfortable contouring, all hardware connected and tightened up properly so nothing loose. One string tree installed at a crooked angle but you can loosen that off to re-orientate it.
Arrived with rust up and down all strings so get a replacement packet when you order, they were unplayable out of the box.
Honestly I am impressed
I was looking for a budget guitar that will become my go-to gigging choice and honestly i couldn't be happier for the price.
Positives:
The finish was flawless (I know some people had some problems with theirs but mine is entirely spotless), the ss frets are a real gamechanger, locking tuners are a must have for me and they hold tune very well and the guitar just looks inspiring to pick up and play and that, for me, is the most important thing when choosing any instrument. A boring looking guitar would not be picked up so often, and therefore it wouldn't spark any creativity. The body resonates amazingly and the tone is good for the most part. I play rock/metal and it handles both cleans and hi-gain tones pretty well. Of course i will change the pickups to something better over time, but for me it't gig ready from the box!
Negatives:
The only negative i would focus on is that when using coil split, the volume drops dramatically and that is with all of these guitars. I watched a lot of reviews and that was the thing that i noticed before the purchase but its not a dealbreaker.
Further down the line i will replace whole electronics and pickups and maybe change a bridge to some stainless steel one.
Overall one of the best choices for the money!
Amazing guitar for the money
Ok, so the first thing to say is that this is not a replacement for a guitar that is over £2k but for the money it is seriously the absolute best guitar I have played. It's so good in fact that I have not taken my more expensive guitar out for a while now. No need! I cannot recommend this guitar enough. Pure pleasure, and knowing that you spent just over £300, makes you feel like you stole it! 😂
Punches above its weight
I have been playing for over 20 years and own several guitars. This is my first Harley Benton and I couldn't be happier. The guitar exceeds all of my expectations. The roasted maple neck feels so good and is very comfortable to play. The setup was just about perfect right out of the box. The pickups are not too hot and have nice touch sensitivity. The stainless steel frets feel rough bending notes for about the first day of playing but then they smooth out. The finish was flawless. The value for the money is simply incredible. I haven't stopped playing it since I opened the box.
I only have one minor complaint about this guitar. The saddles do not have rounded edges and come to razor sharp points that can easily cut your skin. I will have to file them down or swap them out. Don't let this stop you from grabbing one of these fabulous guitars.
