Harley Benton G112 Celestion V30 4-stars Reviews
A great choise for a beginner and small gigs
This speaker cab is the right choise for someone, who doesn't want to spend too much money on cabs. It does what it's supposed to, it does everything a speaker cab should. I mostly use it with a Gretsch G5222 amp. The stock speaker's tone is warm and very good for blues and rock, but I think I'm gonna change the speaker to a brighter one soon.
I've had this speaker cab for over a year and it has never let me down. The quality is good, but the sound doesn't come through the cloth too well. In my opinion the grill cloth on Ampeg and Fender amps is a better choise. I haven't tried kicking the cab, but it really feels like a durable one.
The only real bad thing about this cab is the handle, which in my opinion is in the wrong place. If you put a head on top of the cab, it doesn't stay in place and it can fall off. Side handles would be a better choise.
This cab doesn't really have any special features, but why should it? A tilt option would be a nice thing to have though, since one doesn't have to place a head on top of the cab now.
There's really nothing bad to say about the cab. It's a great cab for someone who doesn't have too much head+cab experience, but it's also a great choise for small gigs. I don't regret buying it!
Your can't buy the speaker alone for this price
I have paid more for an Epiphone Valve Jr cabinet and the quality of this cabinet is of that sort of quality.
The speaker is light years better though. I am using this with a VHT Special 6 1x10 combo. It really improves the tone of the amp. I wish I would have bought this back when I still had my Egnater Rebel 30. It would have been a great match.
I can't find anything to complain about, except now I want the Harley Benton G212 Vintage Cabinet too...
2 wk update: still loving it, and matches very well with my Blackstar ID60:TVP. It just gets better as the speaker is breaking in.
2 month update:
I recently decided to fully remove the back parts of the cab. I found that the tolex is very thin and rips easily.
I am not a fan of the jack and decided to upgrade to a Switchcraft to get a more positive engagement. The old jack made it too easy for the cable to come unplugged, which is not good for a tube amp.
I am planning to build a convertible rear baffle to allow me to use this as a closed back and I may swap in my Jensen Mod 12-110 so that I can play my bass through this as well.
Overall I still think this is one of the best values for a 1x12 Cab on the market.
Great value, and easily modded to suit your sound.
Great value product!
For the money you get a Celestion Vintage 30 in a tidy looking cabinet. With the driver costing almost the whole of the price, that's a cabinet virtually free. And it's not a cheapo cab either. 18mm plywood, open back construction, very light for the unit, convenient to carry around. What features can you get on a simple cabinet design like this one? It's covered in a grained Tolex finish which is fairly lightweight but neat. The front panel has a decent grille cloth. There's a handle on top, a single 6.35mm jack socket on an inset plate on the back and a small plate with the details written on it! What more do you want?
I bought 2 of these as a stopgap for my Hughes & Kettner Tubemeister 36 head until I could afford better units. I can tell you, after rehearsing through them a few times, they are here to stay. Soundwise they are a great partner for the amp, crystal clear cleans and raw loud overdrive. The only issue I could identify is that, with my amp, initially the sound didn't really contain too much bass, the H&K bass control had only a limited effect on the sound. So I tried a simple mod. I just got a 42cm square of 18mm board, added a couple of bits of wood strip to complete the rear panel mounting lip, and tidily closed the back of one of them in. Instantly I got more bass on tap, as you would expect, which can be dialed in and out now. I still have the same raw upper sound but can extend it deeper when I want. Might be worth remembering if your sound is a little lacking in grunt, though I suspect most amps won't have that problem.
Overall this is a great sounding cabinet, can be easily modded to suit your taste, is easily transportable, well made, and ridiculously good value for money.
Very good.
This is a great value 1x12 cabinet and I don't think there is a cheaper way to get a pre-fitted Celestion V30. The sound is good but having played through other V30 loaded cabs I would say you get what you pay for. Not to say the G112 Vintage sounds bad, it doesn't, it sounds very good but next to a V30 loaded Orange cab you cancertainly feel and hear the difference. No complaints about the G112 though, and for the money it's great.
I used a couple of different amps through this cabinet at band rehearsals, including a Hughes & Kettner Tubemeister 5, an Orange Micro Terror and a Laney Cub 10 and the sound always cut through nicely. Overall a good buy but if you can spend more you might want to.
Great Cab for the price
I brought this to record with my different guitar heads. You can't complain about the price. The vintage 30 is labelled as the celestion international not the uk version.
I have done some quick guitar recordings and found that the results sit well in the mix.
Most of the time I'm putting a high pass filter on my guitar track to make room for the bass and kick drum. But has decent lows nice presence in the mids and should get better with age.The aesthetic build quality is pretty faultless.
I would recommend especially in this price bracket you can't go wrong.
Best for the money by far!
For the money, these are unbeatable. Well constructed and well featured. No rattles, sound awesome.
Best value cabinet
I use this cab with an Ibanez TSA15H head and sometimes with an Orange Micro Terror head, and it provides excellent tones with the included well known Celestion V30.
The construction looks good and solid with very good finishing.
A good cab for the price of just the speaker.
