Harley Benton HB-40R Reviews
Good for the price
This Harley amp is great for the price, however there are a couple of downsides. The lack of features is a bit disappointing only having the option of overdrive and reverb. Overall though this is a great amp for the price and does the job whatever the occasion.
Decent amp, bargain at the price.
I'm using this as a practice amp, mostly for jazz so not so much scream and twang and although I'm not playing it out, it certainly has enough poke if I want to. This is a light, reasonably compact and sturdy amp and despite it's weight it doesn't sound thin - it gives a clear tone even at low volumes.
The reverb is clean and responsive and the overdrive channel gives a wide range. The equalisation is fine. The line out and phones socket is a 3.5mm rather than the 6.35mm (1/4") so you might need an adapter.
Playing through effects boxes comes out well too. It's not a massive speaker but there's a socket for you to plug one in if you want to. It's hard to beat it at the price. Very pleased with it.
Good for beginner use
Having bought this amp when I first began playing guitar I had little knowledge of the sound or quality expected from an amp compared to now.
I would recommend this to beginners who dont know exactly what they're looking for and dont want to part with a lot of money. While it is most definitely a sturdy build that will not break easily, its tonal limit is quite poor and I wouldnt recommend for gigging use. It is however great for bedroom practice or jamming with friends, if anything it will definitely guide you towards what you are looking for if you ever feel the need to upgrade your equipment.
Solid guitar amplifier for a student new to electric guitar
Loud hiss and heavy
Harley Benton makes much better amps - I like the CG line in particular. This one, which I got bundled with a starter guitar for my daughter, is hissy, large and heavy. The feature set is nice but it just doesn't sound very good so it never gets used. I gave her one of my CG-10's and it's a much better amp.
Good for starters
This is probably the best amp for low budget and a beginner player :) Very loud
Edit: Two years later and it's like new. Really good for beginners but, if youre looking for something really good then I suggest rising your budget.
Bought this as guitar/amp set. Really great value compared to buying same in Ireland. is well made and good quality and sound. Very happy with the amp and guitar set. Would recommend without reservation.
More than i exprected
The sound quality is really good and it is even loud enough to play in a band! Assuming the drum machine is not that machine like ;)
The equalizer is sensitive and can be adjusted precisely. The overdrive channel ranges from crunch to distortion.
The built in reverb is also a nice feature, witch thickens the sound. Good for surf music.
This amp is also very good for playing at home. It has an extra audio jacket for headphones. You can also plug in another box, good for monitoring or whatever you want to do. All in all i would strongly recommend this one for beginners.
Cheap amp
Quite a good sound and features, although I'm no judge - picks up a hum from somewhere and massive spikes when switching on and off
HB-40R
I wasn't quite satisfied with this, the sound is quite muddy and didnt like the sound. However its very cheap and therefore quite ok as a first amp, which was the case when i bought this. I cant recommend this amp, but it is cheap for an 40w amp. As a beginner player you should really consider spending more money on amp than getting this sucky amp. The bad sound of this thing can turn you down and so you may quit playing quitar because of that. Maybe if you would get few pedals to go with this one, you could maybe make the sound a little better. But yea as a conclusion, buy a bit better one, if you want to have a nice sound when you play :)
Harley Benton HB-40R
The sound quality is amazing and it is really loud. Sounds like a much more expensive model and is great value for the money. Highly recommended.
