Harley Benton SC-400 SGT Classic Series Reviews
Great quality for the Price
I wanted a Les Paul style guitar so opted for this after checking the reviews. This is suprisingly good for the price.
The satin finish looks great and the satin neck feels nice & velvety, your hand glides along the back of the neck.
With the action lowered it is lovely to play, the 13th fret caused a slight buzz but easily fixed with a little sanding. Overall, the frets were nicely finished with no issues.
I have gifted it to my daughter, she was delighted and it has reignited her desire to learn & play again.
If I were keeping it myself I would upgrade (tuners, PU's, electronics, etc) but I opted for an Epi Studio. I would however consider getting another one of these for myself as a back-up...and also just to have and look at - it really does look great.
Damn!
Was surprised at how good this thing plays. Sounds amazing from the box, a little setup and new strings and she was playing like no other. I've owned Les Pauls 20x this price point and this one blows them out of the water. Can't ask for much better.
Beautiful
Nice change to the vintage design. These guitars give you everything you need to play great music. Just wonderful!
Sounds great looks great
Anyone looking for a Les Paul style guitar without spending a ton of money Harley Benton is the way to go
Excellent guitar
For this price point, you can't get anything better
Such a phenomenal piece of craftsmanship
This is such a beautiful guitar and definitely needs to be in EVERY guitarist collection
Like a REAL Gibson Les Paul
I currently own 2 Gibson Les Pauls and have owned others in the past. The SC-400 feels EXACTLY like the real thing, and I would highly recommend this particular model if you want the real experience without the real exorbitant price tag. It is lighter in weight than the real thing, which is a plus for a lot of people.
The SC-400 has actually caused me to set my other guitars aside for at least a short while.
"Looks dangerous"
I did not meet my expectations in full, I do not recommend taking this guitar in a set. At the same time, for a beginner, this guitar is perfect. If you want to know what Les Paul is, then this is your choice, but if you are a person who has already dealt with electric guitars, then this is not your choice.
Great guitar (2021 version)
Contrary to some reviews here from an older date, quality control seems to be on top of all issues mentioned.
First: I also own a real Les Paul standard from the seventies.
I received this guitar in mint condition.
Playability is really, really good.
Hardware is spot on.
These two makes no serious guitar teacher is going to laugh at you: it is MORE than playable, with a light to medium setup out of the box.
There are no dead spots, tuners are really good. Intonation is really good, even compared to my real old Les Paul standard.
I always test my guitars on a Pignose amplifyer, because it reveals the electronics very well, you need to use the tone and volume controls to obtain a good sound.
Well, excellent!
Don't expect real Les Paul tone, though, although the pickups aren't bad and have a sweet sound.
But you can expect better than Gibson playability. Compliments for such improvemt in factory setup.
In my days, when I started playing, I had an Eko and a Hondo (with dimargio desinged pick-ups). These two look like bow and arrows nowadays,
Excellent for beginners. A good back-up for more advanced players.
I play for over 45 years.
Guitar teachers, take note!
Very satisfied
I'm a drummer of 40 years but have had some very expensive guitars. This guitar plays and feels better than my Les Pauls. It was purchased to just play around with. I've ordered TWO MORE Harley Bentons and have been practicing non stop. New amp is next.
Amazing WOW
There is not a single flaw on this guitar! This is my third HB ... I am happy with the first two or I would not have purchased this one, but honestly, I was expecting my luck to run out and get one off the line that just wasn't as good. But, to my shock and amazement, this one arrived quickly, in perfect condition, and perfectly setup. Just amazing, really. Thanks to these HB deals, I realized that I have run out of guitar straps, lol, so I went down to Guitar Center to get a few. While there I mess around with a few "good" guitars and it just made me want to rush home and play this new one. It is that good. I don't know how they do it for that price. The gold top, as mentioned in other reviews, is more of a dirty brass, or copper, AND is not glossy, but a flat / matte finish, but it still looks great as it is. Stays in tune very well, and stock tuners work fine. Sounds really amazing with some heavy distortion, but also pretty flawless on clean tones. I was originally thinking about SD pickups but so far these are sounding great on my various amps.
so this is an amazing guitar. I use it for busking now, but it s such a monster for the price.
its reallt good!
as a first guitar its really good! sounds amazing feels amazung everyone first guitar should ne a harley benton
Just Awesome
Great guitar for the price and well set up and in tune straight out of the box with some great sounds and i love the Orange/Gold top colour..
I would highly recommend this great and Awesome model..
Solid Gold Look and Sound
No guitar is perfect, but this guitar has a great classic sound. The gold top has a slight orange tint to it which only adds to its charm. I want to play this guitar all the time and thanks to the price I didn't have to work for years to get it. The SC-400 pickups are exactly like you would want them to be. I don't want to use my pedals. There are so many tones available. I have a cheap amp and this guitar makes it sound so much better. The tuning machines and the 3 way switch are the only things I would think of changing, but they do just fine.
Amazing guitar
I always wanted a Goldtop Les Paul, but even the Epiphone's were a bit too pricey for me. After seeing this guitar, I couldn't resist. It came a day early, and everything was great. For the price, there is no better deal out there. 10/10
Can't beat it
Great value and shockingly good fit & finish. My first HB and not the last for sure (Just ordered another, a SC-550).
Incredible value for money!
A beautiful instrument which's quality is way beyond it's price tag, the top is more of a copper rather than a true gold top but it's a joy to look at all the same. My guitar arrived pretty much perfectly setup, I didn't need to adjust anything or than a quick tune up.
My first guitar
It's my first electric guitar. Before that, I had only an acoustic guitar, the sound of which I did not like. Now i can play songs and solos with distortion and i really like it. The guitar looks impressive, and sounds quite good for it's price. But there is couple cons of this guitar. There is weight, it's quite heavy, but i think it's a feature of all les pauls. Second con is a bad neck's pickup. I'm not a professional musician, but i hear that it sounds bad. So i play always on bridge's pickup. Otherwise, it's a good instrument, and i really love to play it.
A great guitar, pretty good sound for this price, amazing features and good grip! A little bit heavy, but an amazing guitar
