Harley Benton ST-20HSS SBK Standard Series Reviews
My Favorite
This guitar is so much fun to play! Every time I look at it, it's screaming, "pick me up and play me!" Finally, after trying many different guitars, I have found my daily guitar that I play for hours on end. What do I love about this guitar?
- Satin finish. Extremely smooth and fast. (why don't more guitars have a satin finish neck?)
- Lightweight
- Black finish that I really don't care that much about, meaning, if it gets nicked or scratch, that would just add character. The black aesthetic with tortoise shell pickguard appeals to my sense of style.
- S type styling that is very comfortable sitting or standing
- The low price
The only knock is that the pickups are clearly not the best in terms of tone and variety. A) who cares, this is a practice guitar. B) easy enough to change them if I want to. C) They sound like an S type, which is what you would expect. They just don't sound like a PRS or genuine Fender noiseless for obvious reasons.
For reference, I am fairly new to the guitar (2.5 years) and I have actually purchased and used the following guitars in the last two years in my search for a guitar to fall in love with:
- Epiphone LP Vintage
- HB tele
- HB CST24HB
- HB DC Custom
- HB SC Custom II
- HB HB-35 Plus
- Epiphone Prophecy
- Sire S7
- EART E35
- Donner cheap S type
I still have the Epiphone LP Vintage that I kept because it was my first guitar. I still have the HB-35 Plus because I love it also, but it's a very different machine. All the others were either returned or I resold them.
I will keep this ST20HSS and play it til my fingers bleed. Yes, it is an inexpensive thrasher guitar, and yes, it is so much fun to play. I highly recommend it.
Good value for money
I am a newbie and just learning how to play a guitar, so far the guitar proves to be perfect starter instrument for me.
Good quality and sound excellent
SBK beauty
My second SBK style. I like it. Upgrade in quality for another $25-50 and have someone polish the frets and set it up. Then, I would love it.
Cool but ...
some frets scratch the hand. there are several dead notes after the 15th fret on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd string. the five position switch only works in three positions unfortunately. and so in general, the guitar is good, beautiful and of good quality, it's worth the money!!
Mid tone control
This is my fourth Harley Benton instrument and there will be more.
Build is excellent.
However, the lower tone pot seems to be stuck/routed to the "0" position to make selector positions 2, 3 & 4 very muffled. Its a pity because the bridge humbucker is very good, the neck single coil is astounding for sub 100£/€ guitar.
I'm very happy with the rest of the build and will be adding a custom HSS scratchplate - the guitar is a perfect base for this.
if its your first guitar, just go for it!
This is my first electric guitar, and after going through endless videos and articles recommending guitars for beginners, i was truly lost between the options available, fender squire, yamaha pacifica..etc as i was trying to start with something of quality but not break the bank. This Guitar checked all the boxes for me. other than the fact that it looks beautiful, it plays very nicely. mine needed some adjustments out of the box but minor things like neck and action adjustments.
for this price its a great value for your money. goodluck on your guitar journey.
Store review.
I really liked the store. I am very pleased with the purchase. This is by far the best guitar in my collection. The build quality amazed me. Me and all my friends admire the value for money. In our country, it is simply impossible to find instruments in this price range. Everything is great! From looks to sound. I am delighted. Thanks a lot for your work. I will buy tools only from you!
great guitar!
The guitar is super! Beautiful, comfortable, inexpensive, well-made.Good assembly, I recommend it!
Great
Just what I needed for amazing value. Very good quality. I'm a beginner and have used a more expensive Ibanez. This C neck Fender style just blew my mind with the feel, ease of play, sound, and much more. I'm thinking of ordering another one for my daughter.
A good first guitar
It's a really good cheap guitar, you can also upgrade it so it can be a project guitar too! I have lots of fun learning with it!
Great Budget frendly guitar
Great guitar with great sound. Has both types of pickups so it enables you to play something clean and funky but it has dual coil bridge pickup so if you want to kick it into higher gear and play some distortion stuff it offers great sound. Easy to setup and change wires. Only flaw is that if you use the tremolo system it goes out of tune quickly but guitar costs less than a tank of gas. Great for beginners, easy to play. If you decide you don't want to play anymore it doesn't matter because it isn't a lot of money and if you keep playing you can go long time without buying another guitar because for playing at home, having fun and learning on budget, it's the best guitar on the site!!
Amazing value for money.
First of all it looks awesome. I know this is immaterial in terms of its functionality but still looking good it a big plus. It came with quite high action but I could easily adjust it. It sounds like a much more expensive guitar. I have no idea what the PUs are but the to single coil ones are very bright and clear while the humbacker does a great job and is quite loud. It stays on tune and even the whammy bar is not bad with a bit of an adjustment.
My first gripe is that the HB is not affected by the tone dial. It is constantly set to bright. This seems to be by design but not a massive issue. The other gripe is that it is very easy to scratch and since mine is matte black, every single knick shows. I need to find some type of matte touch up paint if it exists.
Overall extremely happy for a guitar under $100.
One of the best
Setup was great. Guitar feels good in the hands. Definitely my favorite guitar.
For this money you can't find a better guitar
A very high quality cheap guitar. Suitable for all styles due to bridge humbucker. A very versatile and high quality guitar that will suit everyone, both beginners and intermediate guitarists.
This is a great guitar for the money!
There are no comments! The guitar is definitely worth the money! Delivered quickly. No damage. I bought it for my brother. He's a newbie. It's the best option for him. I advise beginners to purchase.
Very Good for Beginners
I played classical guitar for 2 years and this is my firs e-guitar. As a beginner i can say that this thing is very good man! It is easy and comfortable to play and it looks gorgeous.
Great Guitar for Beginners
I've had this guitar as a beginner for all of about two months now, and I absolutely love this thing.
Harley Benton surprises!
This is the best guitar for the money. I have other instruments, including much more expensive ones, I compared them in sound recording and I will say that the difference is not perceptible! As for the quality of workmanship, there was not a single flaw in this copy. You just need to immediately change the strings to new ones, you can even install cheap harley benton strings, they sound great when fresh. Also, the pitch of the strings was not tuned, I did it myself in a couple of minutes. Otherwise I am very satisfied. The matte paint is incredible. I could not think that for $ 100 you can get a guitar of this quality.
