Harley Benton Vintage Overdrive Reviews
Excellent
Bought this just to add a bit of dirt at low volumes on my Fender Blues Jnr Tweed Amplifier. Build quality is excellent, controls are quite subtle in terms of what effect they have on the sound. If you want a a bit of classic sounding overdrive that won't kill your cat or make your ears bleed buy this. You can then buy yourself an extra HB guitar with the money saved compared to leading brands.
Great OD pedal on a budget
35 years of gigging, recording and playing has taught me one thing.
"Tone-hound" snobbery is rubbish. You can spend little money and still get a great sound, I think this is a re-badged Joyo OD and like many things in China now is better made than you may have imagined and has a great sound. I used this on my gigging board as a step boost for another OD worth $300 TBH it sometimes sounded better.
Great Value
What can I say? The pedal is as good as the leading tube screamer and sounds amazing. The build quality is also great.
Real Vintage Overdrive
Excellent sound quality, works well from the power supply. I recommend to buy
Very vintage sound
There is nothing better on guitar sound for me that is a vintage overdrive sound. I was amazed by this product. I am using it almost all the time and the quality pedal is still on its prime. The knobs still offer the same resistance as the first day and so it is on and off switch.
It also causes no noise when it is off and does not cause any other troubles that would lower the quality of performance.
If you love that old recordings overdrive than you definitely have to consider buying this one.
very nice sound for the price
i was looking for an overdrive with harmonic singing distortion, normally i would have bought the Ibanez Tube Screamer which was on my wish list for a long time, but i tried this one and i like the sound very much. I am using single coils with it and i have to put the drive dial almost to the max. to get some overdrive and it still sounds comparatively clean, i wasn't trying with humbuckers yet. It would be nice if there was a little more headroom.
The build quality is good and solid yet very simple. The circuit board is installed a bit skewed, making it hard to change the battery, its so tight that the battery body gets scratches when i put it in.
Overall i like the pedal considering its price tag.
i tried many different tubescremers including ibanez ts9, this one is great, his only problem is the grounding there is a small noise when he pedals in on mode
excellent overdrive for the money
gives sweet and warm overdrive tones
Great First Overdrive
Really like the tones i get when plugging it to my Vox tube amp and for a very sensible price. Have not used it for anything but living room playing but I have been pleased. No need to spend over 100€ when getting your first overdrive pedal because this one does the job and does it well.
Opening the box however i was a little bit dissatisfied to see that it doesn't come with a power cable.
Harley Benton Vintage Overdrive
The Harley Benton pedals are well-built, small and cheap. So for the price, they are all good buys. With regard to the sound, this is more a question of personal taste. From the three Harley Benton pedals I have, this is the one I like the most; it has a nice crunch sound. Maybe it misses a bit of nuance, meaning that the "drive" knob goes from just loud to suddenly too dirty very quick. Still, although I cannot compare it with other over drive pedals, I would say that for the non-audiophile this one gives you a similar result for a fraction of the price. Quality-wise, I have never had an issue with it; I press and press and press and the pedal holds; it doesn't fall apart. The "click" is not subtle, but it doesn't disturb me.
...good ... doing what is expected
Great tubescreamer copy
Nice pedal, great sound, simple to use, it should last long... It is great tubescreamer copy...
Awesome for the money..
Does what it should do!
Let me start by saying I built an entire back up pedalboard from HB pedals for less than the cost of ONE pedal from my main pedalboard!
That said…
This does exactly what an overdrive should do… give you that little extra boost!
Put this in front of one of a tube amp and it sounds sweet.
Put it in front of one of the HB “True Tone” pedals and it can make them sing!
NICE!
Low price Overdrive.
It does exactly what is says on the tin! Works and sounds great. Buy one, you will not regret it!
classic overdrive
gives a classic drive tone. It was a good price. fun for playing classic rock.
Does what it says on the green tin.
I believe I could have spent more cash on a big name brand, but this little box gives me all the grit I need. The price is right as well.
Even better than original
Well well well, who could have known. We all know the original tube screamer, we all know how much loved it is, but we do also know the price of such a nice little thing. Is it possible to get similar options and sound for way less money? I would definitely say that it is possible. In my humble opinion the Harley Benton Vintage Overdrive even sound a bit warmer in the mids. A bit more vintage. But that's what i get out of it. So figure out by yourself. Or try one of these A/B Testing Videos. Of course it does not look as cool as the original one, but hey, you get a lot for the money, so lets not expect too much design wise.
Perfect TS clone
Does what it needs to do at a fraction of the price of the original. Low noise, decent components, good build quality. PCB soldering a bit messy but cleans up nicely if you're handy with a soldering iron. Sold my original TS and kept this, and bought a few more pedals. Had this Joyo clone for years now... still solid!
Great little pedal
I was looking for a pedal to give me an occasional signal boost. As it was for home use only I wasn't looking to spend too much money.
After reading several review i opted to go with this, and i'm really glad i did.
Out of the box the build quality feels sturdy, for me it will be more than adequate for my use. I would say its solid enough to gig with.
The sound though, really impressed me. As I said I was looking for this to be more of a boost than anything but I?m really liking some of the overdriven tones I?ve got from it after a few days of playing around.
I intended it to give my signal a kick while on my amps crunch channel for lead work, but I?ve found some great tones on the clean channel as well.I have also got a few stinkers, but a bit of playing around does find the sweet spots
I have tried this little green baby side by side with my tube screamer, and next to each other you can tell the difference. The TS is far more versatile, the tone control has a far superior range. However its four times the price; but not four times as good.
For the money this really is great, does what I need it to, and if push came to shove. It would work as a backup in my live board.
So the pros are, solid build, decent sound, ease of use (Only three knobs) and cheap
Cons, Mainly that the tone control could do a little more
First Harley Benton item I?ve bought, but if this is anything to go by; it won?t be the last.
Bottom line is while it?s not the greatest pedal and it wont conquer the world, it?s great value for the money and punches well above its weight.
Great OD Pedal.
The HB Vintage Overdrive is a great tubescreamer clone.
People on a budget will really love it.
For me it sounds almost as good as some of the more expensive TS out there, but I mainly use it to tighten up the sound since I play a lot in low tunings like Drop B and it does that great.
The only thing it could improve on the the clicking sounds of the button when you press it, but since it's always on for me I'm not to bothered about it.
