Drawmer 1978

Drawmer 1978

Based on 8 reviews

I bought my first 1978 about half year ago. Compressor section was too clean for my taste . So i bought an SSL and sold my Drawmer. First time i was happy with it but after a few weeks of hard work on studio every day i started to realise how much i underestimated my Drawmer. I opened some projects which i mixed/mastered by Drawmer and realised that i can't reach this sound with my SSL. So i had to by it again. I need to say, that compressor section is still too colorless for itself (on my taste), but with proper use of shaping tool it becomes sooooo much better. Character section allows it to be as much versatile as possible but in 97% of my cases it's only linear release curve (lin, button ON) and unlinked channels (wide button ON). Saturation section is handy in 90% of cases and only...

DBX 266 XS

DBX 266 XS

Based on 7 reviews

This DBX 266 XS compressor is to be highly recommended. The quality of sound it (re)produces, and the flexibility of the controls are so much better than cheaper units. On other units I have used, "Release" can be grabby and compression ratios way to harsh even for the smallest adjustment to the controls (I owned a Behringrer previously). This unit is smooth and easily adjustable ensuring that you neither blast your desk nor kill the sound. Simple and intuitive to use I had it out of the box, installed in my flight was, hooked up and operating within 20 minutes of the courier dropping it off. It really is that easy. I am absolutely delighted and feel this unit represents great value for money. I have marked it 5*s on everything as it does everything it says it will in an...

SSL BUS+

SSL BUS+

Based on 5 reviews

The SSL Bus + is a very versatile bus compressor, with its 4 mode (stereo, sum stereo, dual mono, mid-side), the low THD which keeps the bass frequencies tidy, and the F/B is very useful for less aggressive grab. being able to add the Dynamic EQ with variable frequency, range, speed, shape and expand/compress make it extremely useful mix bus processor. where the 4k mode, especially above first few levels of distortion is useful for more specific mix channels or drum bus. the build quality and the feature set is impressive for the price. I'm very happy with my purchase.

Black Lion Audio Bluey Limiter

Black Lion Audio Bluey Limiter

Based on 4 reviews

QUALITY: Heavy, extemely solid build, all made of metal. All knobs have nice resistance to them, nothing is wobbly. Buttons work great too. The VU meter is great, has back light. This thing is built like a tank! It's one of hardware pieces that you know will last for decades. SOUND: It's ultimate tone colouring box! The harmonic distortion it imparts on the audio signal, makes it pop out and stay upfront / in your face. It's subtle effect, but definitely heard rather than just felt. It instantly brings your tracks to the front of the mix. Like with all audio equipment, while it may not always be great for all types of audio signal, to my surprise, running it in bypass (comp mix knob at 0%) instantly added analog feel even to tracks that don't sound good with 1176 comp. Once you add...

Empirical Labs EL8 X Distressor

Empirical Labs EL8 X Distressor

Fantastic, I use it for tracking and does very clean through to grunge and is great for imparting analogue character from subtle to thick. Very versatile numerous options for side chain and chain. The knees are great 2:1 is slow and gentle, great for invisible compressing. 6:1 is good at grabbing the transient without crushing which 20:1 and nuke do well. The opto 10:1 is different circuit topography and is great for smoother ala La 3/4 compression. There is a reason this item is called a modern classic.

the t.racks DSP 204

the t.racks DSP 204

The last couple of processors I used prior to trying the t.racks DSPs were EV and dbx products. The EV is a great but a lot more expensive. the dbx driverack PA2 does a good job in a way but has very limited routing options, presumably to tempt you to spend more on the 360. No such limitations with the t.racks unit, so it's potentially a lot more useful if you have quite specific routing needs. The Windows software is powerful and intuitive, but equally it's pretty easy to use with the front panel controls (which isn't true of all processors!). I'm a fan and have bought a few now, with no complaints after a few years of use.

Behringer MDX2600 V2

Behringer MDX2600 V2

Based on 2 reviews

I purchased the MDX2600 V2 to improve the audio on my YouTube channel and I have not been disappointed the unit is easy to set up and to adjust, with just enough parameters to create the sound you require my audio has been improved so much i'm able to reduce the background noise by using the Expander/Gate function and to enhance my voices presence using the Compressor plus the inbuilt De-Esser is a welcome addition. My post processing workflow has been reduced by over half just by my purchase of the MDX2600 V2

Behringer 369-KT

Behringer 369-KT

I have it for four days now and really love this one already. Used it on the drum-bus and smacks it really tasteful on there. Did seven mixes with it on the mix-bus and for the rock genre songs I tried it out on it works marveously well. It sounds awesome to me, highly recommended for 'that' sound. Freaking great job Behringer ! Three stars for the control because the threshold pots are really a problem, they turn way too tight. I'll be careful with those and hope they last, Behringer definitely needs to solve those but other then that the sound is amazing and that's what counts to me. If you're hesitating to buy one I would say just get it if you want a 33609 style compressor, this does the job really really well ! I pre-ordered the 1273 as well, I mainly decided...

Drawmer 1968 MK II

Drawmer 1968 MK II

Based on 1 reviews

Not a clone of anything. Drawmer’s original design. For mix bus duties I find it more desirable than any VCA compessor because 1968 MKII progressive-rate compression curves are more musical and organic. I also find it more versatile than many much more expensive compressors in terms of overall tone - is clean and round with good bottom end, it does not introduce phase distortion at the ends of spectrum as many transformer balanced units do (API 2500 for instance, great compressor that simply does not work for certain styles). 1968 MKII output section deserves separate mention. It’s not just make-up gain, it's basically a warmth control and clipping section combined. The way this unit clips the output is just amazing! Nobody mentioned, but 1968 MKII has a well designed linear...

Empirical Labs Fatso - EL7X

Empirical Labs Fatso - EL7X

Based on 1 reviews

The Fatso is a device that really brings a mix alive. After checking out the millions of options available with the budget I had for a character piece, that was both distinctive and useful on an everyday basis, I settled on the fatso. I haven't been disappointed! Combined with a helpful manual, and an easy to use device, it didn't take me long to start to 'learn' the unit, and just see how versatile it really is.... There hasn't been a project at my studio since buying the Fatso, where it hasn't been used... Try it on... drum bus, bass, guitar, acoustic, violin, even vocals... it's awesome!
