JBL is an American audio electronics company that was founded in 1946 by James Bullough Lansing. The company was originally called Lansing Sound, Inc. and was based in Los Angeles, California. The company was initially focused on the development of loudspeaker systems for the motion picture industry.
In the 1950s, JBL began to expand its product line to include consumer audio products. The company released its first consumer loudspeaker, the JBL Model D130, in 1954. This was followed by the release of the iconic JBL L100 loudspeaker in 1970.
In the 1980s, JBL began to diversify its product line to include professional audio products. This included the release of the JBL SR series of studio monitors, which quickly became a staple in recording studios around the world.
In the 1990s, JBL continued to expand its product line to include car audio products and home theater systems. The company also began to focus more on the development of digital signal processing technology.
Today, JBL is a leading manufacturer of audio products for both professional and consumer applications. The company is still based in Los Angeles and is now part of the Harman International Industries group.
