Yamaha YAS-62 04 Alto Sax

Based on 3 reviews
There are a lot of really good altos in the price competitive professional category. Eastman and P.Mauriat at the lower end of the price spectrum are fine horns. For a little more the Yamaha 62 and Yanagisawa AOW1 are great horns. Both the Yamaha and Yani have great response and a great sound but the layout of the keys on the Yamaha felt more natural than the Yani, that is much closer to the layout on the Buffet Crampon student horn I played on. So the Yamaha got the nod. And even though the Yamaha Custom 82Z and 875EX were not in my price range, I thought the 62 played better than either. I did not get a chance to play the Elite range of the Yanagisawas. The YAS-62 is an easy choice with little risk of regret.
P.Mauriat PMXA-67R UL Alto Sax

Based on 1 reviews
This is a a fantastic sax with a big, rich, vintage sound particularly in the lower register. Do not be put off by it being made in Vietnam - there are fantastic craftsmen and women the world over and Mauriat seem to employ a fair few! My only criticisms are the case which, with pockets front and back and an unnecessary velcro fastener, is almost designed to drop your brand new sax on the floor and the strangely shaped and uncomfortable thumb rest. I have already ordered a replacement. If you are looking for a new sax you should at least try one of these.
BetterSax Alto Saxophone

Sax came very well packed and protected.Sax is 3 to 4 kilos lighter as other Alto saxes in its class, wasnt sure the sax was in the box at first. box was sealed with a Conn-Selmer QC sticker ,Youtube has footage how this proces is done. very nice carry case comes with it,straps to cary/shoulderband /and backpack style padded straps. Sax looks beautiful with its cognac laquer ,looks irl like the Selmer surpreme looks on Youtube ,same kind of vibe colorwise. the mechanics of the sax are solid, sturdy, feels like a quality well made instrument. the sounds it makes are even better as expected ,full warm and bright spectrum comes out easy in combination with my Meyer6 mouthpiece. a student sax but with professional bore, intonation very well and in tune on all registers so easy to play. very...
P.Mauriat PMSA-86 UL Alto Sax

Based on 1 reviews
Compared this instrument with P.Mauriat 67ul and after a long tests of both instruments ,I chose 86ul . Very good ,deep sound tried with few mouthpieces , even in all registers, very easy to take a low notes and high notes as well . Impressive unlacquered look of vintage saxophone , ergonomics for me very comfortable . A Case has a lot of space for everything you need : pockets for reeds, neck holder, mouthpiece (a special holding space in the case), pocket for notes ,etc.. As a conclusion: Very good professional instrument for this price. Sound of bronze alto is very impressive.
Yamaha YAS-280 Alto Sax

Based on 19 reviews
The saxophone arrived fine out-of-box except for the octave key which was riding a little high and in released position was about 1 mm above equal height with the thumb rest. All notes in standard range respond well, in tune and clear. Altissimo range is more easily accessible as high F# key is provided. The side C and Bb seem a little undervented. The G# pad sometimes sticks closed the next day after playing as it often does on other saxophones. The neck collar jaws are much improved from earlier versions - they are beefy enough to not bend shut when the neck screw is tightened (that was an issue on YAS-23 where the neck collar jaws were much thinner). The bell when looked on from player's side, while parallel to the main body, is facing somewhat to the left which appears to be a...
Startone SAS-75 Alto Sax

Based on 50 reviews
We are more than happy with the Startone SAS-75 Alto Saxophone for beginners, what I purchased a few years ago. It is a really beautiful instrument with brass body and keys and has a right intonation. The sound is great for this price category, smooth, clear and warm. I think it is better to change the original reed to a thinner one, instead of size 2,5 to 1,5 for example. Its responsiveness is fast and easy with a suitable reed and mouthpiece. Beginners can get the first true tones out of it after some lessons and experiments. The rod system works fine and is smooth-running and the whole instrument has a flawless finish. I am glad playing this excellent sax. In my view this sax is one of the best for this price on the market.
