LP (Latin Percussion) is a manufacturer of percussion instruments based in New Jersey, USA. Founded in 1964 by Martin Cohen, LP has become one of the leading percussion instrument companies in the world.
LP began as a small family-run business, with Martin Cohen and his wife, Ruth, hand-crafting instruments in their basement. In the late 1960s, LP began to expand its product line and moved to a larger facility in New Jersey.
In the 1970s, LP became a major player in the percussion instrument industry, introducing a variety of new products including the first-ever conga drum set. LP also began to collaborate with renowned percussionists, such as Tito Puente and Armando Peraza, to create signature instruments.
In the 1980s, LP continued to expand its product line, introducing a variety of new instruments, including the popular LP Aspire Congas and the LP Galaxy Timbales. LP also began to collaborate with other major instrument manufacturers, such as Yamaha and Pearl, to create signature instruments.
Today, LP is one of the leading percussion instrument companies in the world, offering a wide range of instruments, from congas and bongos to timbales and cowbells. LP also continues to collaborate with renowned percussionists to create signature instruments.
