Ludwig Breakbeats Set White Sparkle

Little kit with big attitude!

This packs a punch! I’m amazed at how great it sounds. I changed the heads to Evans coated and it just gave it the extra finesse. Ideal for smaller venues.

nice sound and versatility

I'm using the set in small muffled room only for recordings and practicing. Compared to the other drum kit I have there (20" bass drum e.t.c) i like the Breakbeats kit more, especially the kick drum. If you like to play hip hop, jazz and more ambient, opened sound-it is a great choice.

If you have experience with guitar recordings you will probably know the smaller amps give fatter tone. I don't dare to say it, but probably it is something like that with kick drums or rather you don't need a very big bass drum to get big sound in studio.

Pros: Compact, easy and fast to install, you don't need to replace the stock heads immediately (as more brand new drum kits).

Cons: No complains by now, after few weeks of use.

I know if you have 3000 Euro drum shells you will be more demanding, but the White Sparkle is 333 euro, c'mon.

I was listening to the my Ludwig Breakbeats from a side, while my friend was playing on and I found the set very singing.

I thing you will get very good, authentic sound for this amount of money.

So good, especially for the price! Works super well on high tuning, and I bet that with better drumheads, it will sound good in other tunings

Poor shape

The edges of the shells had a lot of pieces broken off.

Also the stockheads that came with it were bent.

I guess I can't complain for the price, but I expected a product in good shape....

Very awesome sounding kit

So i bought this kit because i moved out of my parents place. My original drumkit is pretty large and i don't really have the space to put it anywhere. On a drunk adventure i was scrolling on the internet and came across this kit and because i wasn't able to stall out my big kit i bought this out of drunken anger.

MY god what a good idea that was -- i should drink and buy more often.

This kit is sweet as sugar man! It's light (comes in just 1 box) but sounds very big. It's also a very tiny drumkit but it doesn't look like the artist behind the kit looks twice as big. I'm very pleased with this kit. I had some trouble understanding the kick riser and i have some leftover bits and pieces, don't know where they go really...

Buy this kit, it looks classic and plays very good!

Fantastic drumset!

Very compact great sounding drum set for reasonable price! For those who like vintage sounding, light, transportable set, this is the way to go! I would prefere this drumset for all starters, don't be affraid of the smaller kick drum! The weak point are heads(reason i've put sound 4 stars), but for start they are good enough and next heads you buy will increase the sound quality of this set to heaven ;-) If you don't need 2 toms (4 stars for features), then no problem.

Packs a punch and packs away easily.

I bought this kit because I needed something for "jazz gigs" and didnt want to lug around my 22" bass drum. This kit is great for that. It takes up next to no room, and the white sparkle finish looks awesome.

The sound, however, is not singularly for jazz. The stock heads on the kit (pinstripes on toms and a dampened kick head) make for a meaty, punchy sound that I was blown away by. The snare has also become a favourite of mine, it being very versatile.

My only gripe with the whole kit is the hardware, which isn't the best, but for the price, it gets the job done. The bags it comes with aren't hard cases but they do cover the drums ( and make them muffled and quiet if you need to practice.)

All in all I would highly recommend this kit to anyone, and over a year since I got it, I still love it, it has made being a drummer even easier than it was before.

Great value mini kit

This is a lot of kit for the small amount money. Sure they have had to reduce some aspects of build quality and finish, but the overall size sound and convenience of this kit is fantastic - especially when you look at the price point. People are amazed when I tell them how cheap it was to buy brand new!

A great buy

I wanted a more compact kit to fit in my small home studio, but also one that I could take to gigs in restricted spaces. After a lot of research on the web, I came across this little kit. It had good reviews and some good video clips too.

Construction:

It is a budget kit, but it punches well above its weight in terms of sound. The construction and finish are to a good standard and I had no issues. The light grey wrap with small white sparkles looks good, especially under stage lights. Although the wood is a cheaper timber, it is good quality and provides a kind of classic/retro sound which I found very attractive. The heads are Chinese-made Remo heads and more than acceptable on a budget kit. The hardware (hoops, lugs, strainer, snare wire, tom legs etc.) is of good quality and looks good too. The badges are stickers but are well applied and look nice.

Tuning/Sound:

The drum sizes are well chosen, and offer a wide range of tuning possibilities. I was really impressed by the small bass drum. I tuned the batter-side head to finger tight, and the resonant head slightly tighter. The result was a deep, yet focused bass drum sound that didn't need any dampening. The toms provided a similar full sound whether tuned low, medium or high. My favoured tuning was low, with the resonance head tuned slightly lower for that classic "bow" sound. The snare is better than anticipated. Although it is a budget snare (some of my snares cost twice as much as this entire kit) it tunes well over a useful range and is snappy. I used a low tuning with a very loose snare to provide a fat/retro back-beat that worked really well in a live setting and maintained plenty of sensitivity. It could easily be tuned higher for a more funky sound.

Portability:

The drum kit is easily transportable. I had no problem fitting it in the back of my car. Owing to the small sizes it allows for a compact setup on stage and during gigs. I loved how easy it was to transport, making set-up quicker than with heavier kits. I would recommend using a light hardware pack to go with it and maintain the portability.

Accessories:

This is a shell pack only, meaning there no stands or cymbals. There is a tom mount on the bass drum which feels solid and looks suitably retro too. The floor tom legs are light, grip well, and provide a suitable range to suit a variety of heights and angles. The provided bags are a nice bonus, and I loved the printed logo. They won't provide much protection, but are useful to store the drums during transport and for storage. They also work well as mufflers for quiet practice.

Conclusion:

I am extremely pleased with this kit. I love the sound, the light weight, and the retro vibe. The price is amazing and the entire package well thought-out and designed. I would have no hesitation in buying this kit again.
