Exceptional at the price point.
A lovely, subtle instrument that shows what pearwood is capable of (Mollenhauer are very good at this!). It has the perfect balance between being by design assertive enough to use as a solo instrument; and yet is because of the wood gentle enough to blend in an ensemble. The oiling has been improved in colour since I bought mine, and I am tempted to replace mine with the newer colour, which is much more attractive! All in all a really versatile recorder which is a pleasure to play.
I really liked the sound., powerful, warm, easily adjustable.
Excellent Sounds
I really enjoy the pearwood sound. The notes are clear, even at the low and upper ranges. Controlling the airflow is relatively easy. The sound is clear and loud. The pitch is also very good, once the recorder is warm.
A pleasure to play
Really nice step up tonally from resin recorders - a real pleasure to play.
But, it takes an awful lot more work to maintain - occasional players are probably better sticking with plastic.
An instrument that inspires its owner to play more
This recorder (and, I expect, others at this price range) stands out as a quality instrument. Its tone is so good that I am constantly surprised that every time I play it at least someone comes up afterwards to comment on its sound. Its intonation is spot on, more than can be said for my old wooden school recorder. This is an instrument that inspires its owner to play more and more.
This a work of art as well as a fully functional recorder!
When I first opened the opened the case I sat back in awe of the craftsmanship, what a work of art! The recorder is beautiful as well as being perfect to the touch. The sound quality is without question excellent and the tone is very even throughout the range. The quality of the workmanship is almost breath taking and the finished item is so lovely to handle. This little gem seems to have a life of its own and your fingers dance so much better over the tones holes, it seems like you can play faster and more precisely than ever before. This was such a great purchase, I'm one happy piper!
