Moog EP-3

Basic but solid

I use this as an extra modulation input for my DeepMind 12, and it has made it much more, err... expressive! It's a pretty basic expression pedal - just a potentiometer, a polarity switch and an adjustment control on the side, but it's solidly built and does what it does very well. The metal baseplate makes it heavy enough that it stays planted on the floor, big enough that you can easily rest your foot on it and there's a good amount of friction - just enough to keep it where you want it. The part that connects the pedal to the potentiometer is metal - one of the reasons I went with this pedal, since on many of the cheaper ones it looks like snappable plastic. There's lots of attention to detail here: the surface of the pedal is slightly rubbery for extra grip.

The adjustment on the side is probably useful for controlling guitar pedals and suchlike, but it's not useful on a synth where you have direct control over the modulation amount anyway. I forgot it was there until I came to write this review.

The best part about this pedal is that you can boast about having a Moog even if you can only afford Behringer synths.

Good expression pedal for the money

Positives:

+ Control/taper feels great

+ The output control is great for fx compatibility

+ Feels sturdy enough

+ Is not overly expensive

Negatives:

- It's a bit high for my taste

- Rubber pads on the bottom are okay, but also a bit hard and still slip on stuff like PVC or laminate flooring.

Can work as volume pedal

I used this pedal as a volume pedal for delay send signal level. In this case your would just need a stereo to two mono jacks cable (TRS to two TS, one is ring and one is tip). Works well for me. Feels smooth and light. The knob on the side doesn’t shift the range but just adds more resistance (so your minimum also shifts together with the maximum, keep that in mind). P.S. Switch to “other” mode on the bottom of the pedal if you are going to use it as a volume pedal. Or it’s logarithmic otherwise or something. The signal almost doesn’t change before you put the pedal fully down when used in “standard” mode.

So I've bought this pedal because I've recently got my hands on a EQD Avalanche Run and I want to control some paramters with a good expression pedal. The manual of the EQD AR said the Moog EP-3 is best suited for the job.

I've been using it for a week now and I'm very happy with the pedal, the build quality is fine and pedal moves smooth and feels very natural.

This pedal is pretty self explanatory, a fun thing is the jack cable that comes with the Moog EP-3 is not hardwired on the pedal it self.

This gives me room to manuver the pedal on my board or other locations.

I've got no complaints one week after buying it and working with it.
