Excellent unit - but pricey

This Morley unit needs power to operate, it is not passive operation. It can be powered with a 9v battery or a 9v adapter. I have no idea how long a 9v battery will last.

This unit is super quiet with no pops or cracks when touching it or switching. The ground lift switch eliminates any ground loop hum, if it appears. It offers and additional feature whereby when in 'Y' mode, the outputs can be reversed (so that left becomes right and vice versa). Not exactly sure why one would want that.

I purchased this, along with four other ABY boxes, as part of a 'belt & braces' move to save time when a simple, passive operation Fender ABY box proved to be excessively noisy with ground loop hum, buzzes and crackles. The Fender box turned out to be faulty and its replacement did not suffer the same hideous noise.

However, when compared against this Morley, the Fender ABY box was shown to be a tone sucker. I also discovered during A/B comparison tests that the otherwise excellent, Radial Engineering Tonebone Twin City ABY, also colours the tone slightly.

But this Morley is completely transparent in operation. No buzzes, no crackles, and no alteration in tone or volume when in circuit. It really is excellent and certainly the best of bunch.

Maybe all of THAT wonderfulness explains the high price! One star removed because of that.
