This is a very capable machine, and it seems that Roland will continue updating firmware to make better and better. This is my first hardware sampler and it is so much fun! I'm still learning this beast but I can definatly recommend it for a range of uses. I sounds great with my bass plugged in for make like riffs and bass lines to work into a mix. it is also an excellent vocal processor, so can add effects to live voals in real time. I does seem a shame that I can't plug my bass and mic in at the same time but not really a deal breaker. It comes into its own with chopping up altering and layering samples, this is what it is mostly built for and it does this very well. If you don't want to work in front of a computer with mouse/keyboard, this is what you need. Not everyone has a powerful / decent modern computer to use DAWs. This can serve as a decent standalone machine to replace a DAWs. And you can always export the project into Ableton live if you need more refinement. The speakers sound great, you can take it to anywhere from bed/sofa or even outdoor. The update made it possible to use class compliant audio interface to expand the audio in and out, so you can take a portable audio interface with you on the go too. After 10 years Octatrack is still a great tool for electronic music. It definitely has its limits, while there was a lot of updates on the sequencer and secondary functions, still no new effects or sound engines and no plans for that (supposedly limited by the CPU & RAM). The overall sound quality is also a matter of long debates. But it is still stronger in sound design and performance features than the competitors like Akai or Pioneer. The advanced looping/recorders feature there is still unique and it's more fluent and flexible in connectivity and immediacy of sound creation (despite the complexity). And no so many devices on current marktet bring you 3 LFOs per instrument. There are better tools for techno or hip-hop, but there are no more flexible texture-builders, remix...

This has been my first attempt to learn how to deal with the MPC world, this product is excellent : soundwise, build is quite sturdy, the learning curve is a bit steep if you are coming from Ableton because things are done in a different way...but I am absolutely loving Ah and it has the same software as the MPC ilive, no hard drive option or battery but you can avoid the hurdle with a cheap SD card and a nearby socket. Since I found out about the pocket operators series, the one that I always wanted was a sampler, teenage made it so I bought it. First of all, if you're looking for a sp 404 or a mpc for a fraction of the price, just forget about it, you're going to blow 100 bucks(its monophonic, 40 seconds of sampling time etc...). This is a great machine, you can record through the built in microphone and then you can cut, pitch and throw a low/high pass filter to the sample. After that you can sequence all the sounds and you can chain sequences together in order to create a song or simply make a 16,32 etc step sequence. Good: The effects are incredibly fun to use. Polyend Tracker changed everything about music-making for me. It became my holy grail, and I've completely switched to using it for production, and I don't feel like there is a way back, at least in the observable future. I've been using it for a year now, and 100% of tracks I've finished over the past year, I did on PT. It's not for everyone, but as soon as it clicks, if it clicks at all, tracking starts making so much sense that going back to piano roll feels like a cumbersome and pointless process. Total score - 5/5. It takes time to learn it, but when muscle memory kicks in, everything falls into its place, and your ideas translate into music in seconds. I bought the PO-35 as an addition to my 8 vocoders and various other synth engines and samplers. This is a very useful device if you want to create artificial vocal effects quickly and with good audio quality. You can record your spoken phrases using the built in microphone or line input. This recording is used to drive the various synth engines the PO-35 has on offer. If you are looking for a sampler then this probably isn't the device for you, there are other things to buy for sampling. You need to keep in mind this is a voice synthesiser and not a sampler in the true sense.
