Meinl 10" Byzance Jazz Splash

I bought this splash to be part of a mini hi hat pair, I pair it with a Byzance medium splash. The sound on this splash alone is pleasant, and soft. The sticks definition is quite low (2B sticks, wooden tip), the wash is great - short but rich. In the hi hat pair, I get a set with good stick definition, good volume, and an excellent wash from semi open hi hats. ...and this is so lightweight! I bring this and the Byzance medium splash in my tiny backpack , and I don’t feel them in there. The tone of this cymbal is on the darker side, but it’s “musically dark” as in, it survives in a mix of guitars, pianos etc. I have used this in a rock, hardcore, metal setting as my main hi hats (with the other Byzance splash) and they cut through. My only problem now is, I love...

The cymbal produces a quiet trashy sound with a very fast decay. I'd rate it a 5./5 in terms of using it as a splash. As the sound is "trashy", it makes a good cheap alternative for a small china symbol. The only problem with this is that as I said it is very quiet and has a very fast decay due to it's size, so if you were to use this as something to crash on then I'd advise get a larger model or my recommendation would be to purchase a Sabian 18" HHX / AAX O-Zone Crash which could be used as a china, crash and splash and is a better symbol all-round, but it does come at a high cost of around £300 however it would last you a long time in comparison to this cymbal. However for a splash this is perfect. This cymbal is durable if you use it as a splash but for...

Meinl 10" Byzance Splash

This Byzance splash is high quality. It’s quite thin, lightweight, but also seems to take a bashing. I use 2B sticks and hit pretty hard. I’ve also used it as mini hi hats (this and a Byzance jazz splash), and I love how they sound together. This splash gives good stick definition, and the half open pair gives an excellent wash suitable for rock, and loud enough to play in a rock/hardcore setting, actually. It being 10 inches, and on then darker side of sounds, the sound is quite short. This means you can hit it often without creating a sonic mess. If you can’t tell yet, I love this splash!

The finish and sound of this cymbal is spectacular. For the price you are gettig a high quality splash with a sound that cuts through but is still very pleasant to the ear/music. It's a sharp sounding cymbal with not a great sustain to it but dies down after a few seconds. This is a perfect filler cymbal that you can use to spice up some fills. Pro's - Great quality feel to it. - Sound is beautifull. - Good to use as a single cymbal but also very cool to use in a stack. Con's - None that I could find so far.

Qualities - Thin, good quality alloy, sounds great as a splash. But to use it as just a splash would be such a shame. This is a great entry point to anyone who is interested in new sounds on the kit. I often use it on top of my 20" Caz ride, just stack it on top, it sounds awesome. Experiment and put it on top/underneath all your cymbals. But the coup de grace is when you put it on your snare. Oh my. It sounds exactly like an electronic snare/clap sound when I lay it on my snare (13" Yamaha musashi) and hit the edge of the cymbal. To summarise, just buy this thing, it's too cheap not to. Sounds fine as a splash, but serves much better when you get weird with it.

Meinl 10" HCS Splash

This cymbal has a beautiful clear sound and lives up to its name with a lively yet warm splash that sits nicely in the mid-range; not too high, not too low. I use this in a small church room where volume is an issue and it's nice to be able to hit a cymbal without having to hold back. It doesn't quite replace my crash as it doesn't have the same sustain but I find it great for giving a short, bright accent to my playing without deafening anyone. Even for more delicate playing it has a lovely clear sound from bell to edge. The cymbal is solid and well-made. I've only had it a few weeks but it seems tough enough to stand up to some long-term punishment. The finish is of a high quality and in general, it's a good looking piece of kit. For the price, this cymbal gives you your money's...

Meinl 10" Byzance Vintage Tr. Splash

I'm a big fan of the Meinl trash crashes, finding them to be really musical and also surprisingly versatile. They're fast and don't need much force to produce a satisfying explosive sound that's quick in and quick out. The trash splash - new for this year - carries on the same idea - very fast to open up and die away - only obviously it's higher pitched. It reminds me of the way a cat sneezes! That said, it does have a low undertone - and it all adds up to a satisfyingly complex sound. At really low volumes you can almost 'ride' it. A great addition to the Meinl range. It also blends in very nicely with my Benny Greb sand cymbals.

I was looking for an additional 10" Splash to go with my K ZIldjian 8" Splash. As i use splashes mostly for sparse, fast accents and am not too critical about the sound of a splash (ride, crashes and HiHat cymbals are way more important to me), I though I'd check one of these out. They look great and bring a nice visual contrast to my regular cymbals. And the sound is much better than I had expected from its price. It's a nice fast splash, with a hint of trash that doesn't get in the way and doesn't dominate the sound. It's a great addition, it looks and sounds great and is very afforfable. Nice one!
