Genres: I was searching ultimate crash/ride, laud, clear, durable and suitable for different genres which I play like stoner, sludge, death and doom metal. Sound as a ride: Versatile, sensitive, warm, full sound with clear ping, medium sustain and loud bell. You can play on it light things which require soft and calm patterns but it cuts through in blast beats and double bass drumming without any problems. Sound as a crash: Very very loud, explosive with long sustain but still great sounding in studio. You will be the loudest drummer in the area but due the weight it could be difficult to control at the beginning. For that reason probably you will need some heavy cymbal stand. I have been searching for my perfect ride for years. I love the tone and warmth of the Paiste Giant Beat 24" but it doesn't quite have enough bite to cut through more intense situations for me. The new 24" Big Beat is perfect! It has the warmth of the Giant Beat and the 'crashability' (even at low volumes), but it cuts through when needed. Lovely cymbal.

This Ride can basically do everything! For a straight up ride it has a nice ping and sounds warm with a little wash. The bell is understated compared to others but it does the job nicely. I tend to crash on my ride a lot and the 24 light ride is absolutely gorgeous when you crash on it. the sound is massive but never too much because of the darker tones. Because of it's size and weight you can play quiet, intricate parts and then open up to an avalanche of noise. I'd recommend it to any drummer except those who either want a very dry ride or those who like their cymbals very bright with harsh overtones.

A great sizzle sound and also a nice bell tone. I have to say that I nearly sent it back the first day it arrived. The sound is so far away from anything I have had before, and it took a long time to learn to play. It actually sounds crap from where I sit but EVERY gig someone comes to see me and inspects it....apparently it sounds fab 'out there'!!!
