Meinl 13" Byzance Dark Hi-Hat
Based on 3 reviews
I've never been a dark cymbal guy but after endlessly looking and listening at hi-hat videos decided to pull the plug on these. There's a cool balance going on here: the 13' size makes them fast and the darkness lowers the pitch so they're complex and dark but fast. You get a very pleasant, articulate and crisp "chick" when you play them closed but they can get loud and throaty when you bash em' open but of course you control that as you lay into them, they feel great under the sticks and give you a nice rebound. Box came well padded including the meinl plastic sleeve on the cymbals, no funny business, no issues.
Zultan 13" Raw Hi-Hat

Obviously one always has to consider the quality / price ratio of the product, but I trully believe this guy, althoug good enough could deliver a bit more based on what it costed and how easy it is to get other turkish cymbals for not much more. Regarding finishing, the hammering is kind of unfinished and very inconsistent on some parts of the cymbal. Also the hole is not totaly filed. About the sound it matches the style but there is kind of a rubberish/plastic overtone to it. After this experience, I've actually tried brand cymbals for around the same price and managed to get more love out of them.
Istanbul Agop 13" Xist Hi-Hat Brilliant

I have these along with the 16" and 18" Xist brilliant crashes, and the hats are the best! The crashes are a little dark, and get buried in a heavy mix too easily, but these 13" hats are somewhat brighter and more versatile. They take accenting very well, stick tips bounce off them nicely and they have a good shimmering sound when open, which makes them great for disco, funk and rock beats. They also sound good in heavier music like metal, although I would recommend using a separate hi-hat mic if using them for recording heavy music. Also, after having them for roughly 2 years and giving them pretty heavy use (including gigs), they haven't really lost any tone at all and have no sign of wear and tear other than fingermarks. Definitely my favourite of the Xist brilliant...
Zultan 13" Aja Hi-Hat
Based on 9 reviews
Needed an extra drum kit because my main kit lives in another house now. Didn't wanna spend thousands, so looking for a modest price point. This is one of three sets i tested, along with the 13" Zildjan Planet Z and the 13" Millenium Still series. In the end i went for a modified the Millenium Still series (added a Meinl 8" splash to the top hat), but the Zildjans were both worthy contenders. A little too much tin and too little sizzle for me, that's why i went for the Millenium/Meinl combo. Would recommend both Zildjans for beginner level though. The Aja a bit more subtle, the Planet Z a bit louder in the bell area.

In Rep. of Moldova we don't have a shop where you can try and compare new stuff so these hi-hats were my only chance to have ones at max 150 euro . I'm not a drum killer so i'm looking for a soft and pleasant sound of my kit. Pros/cons Before acquiring them i was thinking to sell a kidney to buy jojo's vault but my parent would kill me for that . Now i like zultan's sound more than jojo's one . They are easy to handle playing funk jazz even disco because of it's warm sound and quick "chik". I am worrying when someone else plays them cause it looks fragile . A good metallist could break 3 pairs per gig .they looks unfinished, borders are rough so that permanently eats my sticks even hitting soft . Conclusion : you should try them at least once, they also looks good on the...
