I decided to add this tom at Christmas to my ever increasing hybrid kit. I'm so glad I did. I 'play for fun' so this wasn't ever going to be used as a gigging instrument. Despite great attempts by the postal service to damage my order in transit, it arrived safely in time for Christmas. I was surprised by the weight of such a small item - extremely sturdy. It was very easy to put together - a couple of screws and a minute's work left it ready to be attached to the rack. As soon as I struck it for the first time I knew it was good decision. A very sharp tone fitting in perfectly (tonally) between my other standard 8" toms and a pair of bongos (used as toms). I now have an 8 'tom' range on my kit. I have spent a bit of time on the kit since and the tom has been through a few...
Yamaha Stage Custom 08"x07" TT -RBL

I like small drums and this 8" tom is just lovely. It's the same all birch shell and color RB as my Katche Junior's. It's a nice add on and sounds typically high with a little sustain and sings nicely when tuned Med - Low. Ideally I would of liked an 8" tom of the same Katche Junior Series but Yamaha don't have added components for this set so the Stage Custom was the next best option. A nice drum that doesn't choke from many strokes. Decy Campion Drums

I got ths to go with my black 1980s Pearl Export kit. It comes with a tom mount and cymbal stand bracket so was easy to fit where ever I wanted. In the end I put it on the bass drum, and moved all the other toms round one space using the bracket and holder for this tom to hold a 13" on a cymbal stand. Why only 4* out of 5* for sound? well, the heads are basic. If you really want to get the best out of this tom you might want to put some Evans or Aquarian's on it. As it stands the sound is loud and boingy think the opening fill on "Land Down Under". If I could give it 4.9 stars I would, just a slight drop for the cheap Pearl heads that come with it. It is also only 4 lugs per side which to some may me too few. But I really doubt you could comfortably get more than 5 round...
