These mallets are the ones I always use, for many different repertoire, it always finds its place in the orchestra. The color is quite soft, but with slightly different strokes, you can bring clarity and even get aggressiveness into the sound. The rolls sound full and round, and the power is astonishing, with a medium weight. If you can only bring one pair of mallets to the orchestra session, this is the one.

I was looking for a professional pair of timpani mallets in order to play in orchestra, in concert band and in solo and a friend gave me an advice talking about Playwood Timpani Mallets. After trying some other models and I decided to buy also this pair and, when I played them for the first time, I got very impressed and satisfied of the buying, because of the perfect balancing, the perfect control around all dynamics, from ppp to fff, and because of the huge and big sound, despite the medium-hard head. The felt is excellent. I think this pair has no defects and the price is perfect for a pair like this. Very recommended!

These are very comfortable for a harder and louder general timpani playing. Also, the American style of playing is advised with these mallets - you can’t really let the stick be too loose in your heads because if they rotate around and you hit with the back part where they felts are knitted together you get a different sound and a weird bounce that is hard to control.

The B6 is an exception to the BERLIN Series when it comes to its weigh as it is on average 3-4gr heavier than the other models. It maintains a very round, warm, romantic sound, which off course is the character of this series but the extra weigh adds a full, direct and overwhelming sound to the sound Texture due to the Extra-Large Cork Core. This IS one of the BEST Timpani mallets I have played so far! Absolutely mesmerizing!!!

These mallets are really great for chamber music projects or for small orchestra settings up to 40 musicians. Warm, defined and direct with great balance. The BERLIN Series focuses mostly at the mid harmonic register of the Timpani making them very warm and sweet sounding including the harder models too (B1, B2). The weight is Medium-Light (31gr). I highly suggest them as a premium pair of Timpani mallets.

I have all of the berlin series and if there was to be a crown jewel of the series this would be it! Amazing warm, dark and direct sound from p to mf but at Forte the cork core starts to be prominent giving clear attack while maintaining the warm sound. Too many beautiful sound textures with this mallet!

I'm a jazz drummer and I've been using the Vic Firth VFT2 Timpani Sticks Cartwheel for many years. For me, they have a perfect balance of outer softness and harder core which give a great sound on toms as well as cymbals. I generally use 7A sticks and these mallets have the most similar weight/response I can get.

I've tried a few pairs of these mallets now and they're all brilliant, really enjoying adding extra pairs to my arsenal and finding new sounds. They're beautifully made, as you'd expect from Steiner and each pair has a uniquely thought out sound which compliments not only the other Steiner mallets I have, but also fits well into my whole stick collection

I use this for a lot of modern stuff as well as baroque. This mallet brings out a lot of nice overtones. It’s pretty articulated and still dosent give the hard sound of a wood mallet. The sound is pretty distinctive, so i would not recommended it for a starter mallet unless you only play baroque stuff.

As all the Raymond Curfs mallets, the finish is very good. For one of the best price range, you have a professional pair in your hands. This one is perfect for powerful clear rhythmic passages from Romantic repertoire (such as the Finale from Brahms 1st). The pleasuring weight on the head makes it powerful, but not exaggeratedly, so it doesn't become a technical problem. The saturation point is very far into the forte dynamics, so you don't need to retain yourself. It's very powerful, but never aggressive. A great investment !
